Title: FIFA World Cup 2006
Description: talk football/soccer here

meriadoc0412 - June 11, 2006 02:01 PM (GMT)

It seems that some people here are very interested in football..

Even if you're not but still watching a match / matches ... talk about them here ...

Me, I'm watching SerbiaMontenegro - Netherlands at the mo ...

NL played very good so far, very quick actions and a hell of a goal by ROBBEN .... YES!!

Oh ... and I saw a cuteness with the name of Wesley Snijder .....

Hestia - June 11, 2006 05:10 PM (GMT)
Wahahahaha, cool thread, Pasc! But Wesley Snijder a cutie? Nooooo way... I'm all about Ruud van Nistelrooij. I don't know much about other players though, but I will keep my eyes open

Scoooooooooooore!

meriadoc0412 - June 11, 2006 05:25 PM (GMT)
Thanks ...

Was it just me, or have the Serbia-Montenegro guys been very very slow??
the only fast one was Danijel Ljuboja, who is a real good player (he played for VfB Stuttgart aswell) ..

Hestia - June 11, 2006 05:30 PM (GMT)
I didn't think much of the whole second half. I could read a VERY difficult theoretical article and make notes at the same time, so the game was a bit slow overall. It was the weather: the dutchies weren't prepared for this tropical weather at all!

I had expected more of Kezman and Milosevic: those were the only two I recognised. Kezman has played for PSV Eindhoven a couple of years back.

meriadoc0412 - June 11, 2006 08:29 PM (GMT)
Well, it's only the beginning of the world cup ... maybe they all need some time to get hot
..

lol!

Hestia - June 12, 2006 04:15 PM (GMT)
There were some hot Aussies today! And eventually they won the game 3-1 thanks to the final 10 minutes! What a team. Go Guus Hiddink! (Guus=their coach).

meriadoc0412 - June 12, 2006 04:25 PM (GMT)
Aussie won? Coolness.... I couldn't watch, unfortunately ---> WORK .... :splat:

Hestia - June 12, 2006 04:55 PM (GMT)
Stupid work!

Czech Republic is playing United Stated now. It's half-time and poor Jan Koller has just been badly injured. I remember Jan Koller from way back in 1998, when Netherlands played Czech once, and our big defender Jaap Stam had to shadow Jan Koller. Poor guy...

It's 2-0 for Czech Republic. Don't think US will win this, Czech Republic is a good team.

meriadoc0412 - June 12, 2006 09:11 PM (GMT)
Today' games:

USA - Czech Republic --- 0:3

Italy - Ghana --- 2:0

Australia - Japan --- 3:1

Fawkes - June 12, 2006 10:01 PM (GMT)
So am i right in thinking all the main board members here all have teams which are doing well? (Except the USA but they dont really count because they dont even play football the right way! So never practice etc)

Watched the England game, very boring only one goal! The drink was flowing and it felt like the whole country was together as one.

It really was boring... and disappointing.. kinda ... I mean they only won by being lucky...

As I said before, the teams have to get hot for the world cup

Hestia - June 14, 2006 09:07 PM (GMT)
Congrats, Pasc! Germany is through the first round. They beat Poland with 1-0, they scored in the extra time.

meriadoc0412 - June 14, 2006 10:50 PM (GMT)
YESSSSSSSSSSS!
Thankies.. I watched it, of course...
Dammit ... I think Germany did very well in the 2nd half ...
And the goal Oliver Neuville scored .. Brilliant ... and lucky!!

maddy - June 15, 2006 06:18 AM (GMT)
YESSS! Australia won! And it was a super duper game!

AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE! OI OI OI!

haha, I wonder who's going to win next? Brazil or Australia?

haha, poor Australia...

Hestia - June 15, 2006 07:55 AM (GMT)
Maddy, you shan't underestimate the power behind the Aussies: Guus Hiddink!

Goooooo Socceroos!

Hestia - June 15, 2006 05:05 PM (GMT)
Wah, I just saw a commercial for Continental, one of the sponsors of the FIFA World Cup, and I think that Goaly Timo features in it :o

Pasc, can you confirm that?

meriadoc0412 - June 15, 2006 05:46 PM (GMT)
I totally can confirm that!!!! It's him.

i_heart_Dom - June 15, 2006 08:23 PM (GMT)
gaaaah! US.... there really was no hope for us in the first place.

its the teams fault that they lost, but the fact that most of this country doesnt care about football sucks even more than them losing.

Hestia - June 16, 2006 02:47 PM (GMT)
Very exciting match later today! Netherlands - Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire)

Is it the 6 pm or the 9 pm game??

Hestia - June 17, 2006 09:54 AM (GMT)
It was the 6pm match. We had dinner in front of the telly

And we won! We're through to the next round.
Van Persie en Van Nistelrooy scored in the first half, then an Ivorian guy scored too. The second half was very intense and exciting. I'm a bit sad for the Ivorian people, but only one team can win a game.

The next match from the Dutchies is against Argentina. The pressure is off both teams, since they are both already through to the next round, whoever wins that match.

I could only watch the 2nd half as I had to work till 6:30 ...
Btw... the match took place in Stuttgart in the stadium I am like every 2nd Saturday,,,

I really liked the match and the Ivorians really fighted so hard towards the end of the game.... Poor guys...

But that's the game, isn't it?

Hestia - June 18, 2006 06:28 PM (GMT)
Awwww, poor Aussies. They lost from Brazil with 2-0. But there's still a chance on the next round, they will have to beat Croatia and I think they can do that

Hestia - June 21, 2006 07:51 PM (GMT)
Bwah, I'm watching Netherlands - Argentina, and even though the commentator-guy thinks it's a good match, I'm very bored... The guys keep bumping into each other, and lie on the ground most of the time, but not in a nice, manloving-way, because they can't keep the ball longer than 3 seconds and some other footballer tackles them.

It sucks. I want goals and manhugs and mankisses and men who love each other and their game. It is just rubbish I'm looking at now.

Hestia - June 24, 2006 03:00 PM (GMT)
Where's Wilhelmsson?

I want my Wilhelmsson! I'm sorry Pasc. I support the Swedish guys.

Hestia - June 24, 2006 03:20 PM (GMT)
Boohoo... Wilhelmsson doesn't play, and it's 2-0 for Germany in less than 20 minutes.

meriadoc0412 - June 24, 2006 06:37 PM (GMT)
What a Game!!!!! Oh my gosh!!!
The first half .. I was freaking out!!! (woW>

We won 2-0. btw

Hestia - June 24, 2006 07:03 PM (GMT)
Congrats on making the quarter finals!

And I'm sorry, but I had to cheer for Sweden. I love tall blonde gods.

maddy - June 25, 2006 06:05 AM (GMT)
Wholey Crapps! Australia is into the second round! FREAKIN' AMAZING! :o

meriadoc0412 - June 25, 2006 08:45 AM (GMT)
LOL ...@ Jo .... I'll forgive you, HA!

And Maddy ... the SOCCEROOS did such amazing games! :wow:
I hope they're gonna kick out Italy (Germany and Italy have been football enemies for decades!!)

Knuxs - June 25, 2006 06:03 PM (GMT)
England won! Which means.... depending on the outcome of tonight... we either play Portugal or HOLLAND!!!!! :o :o

Lets still be friends Jo! :dancy:

Lol! If the score stays how it is at the moment we'll be playing Portugal, although they are down to 10 men now!!! :o

The lucky t shirt worked again, England still haven't lost while I've been wearing it!

meriadoc0412 - June 25, 2006 07:58 PM (GMT)
I watched England - Ecuador too ...
Cograts, Brits ...

Eeew ... did you see Becks puke beside the pitch??

meriadoc0412 - June 25, 2006 09:53 PM (GMT)
Jo, I'm so sorry Holland didn't make it ... :hugy: :hugy:

I have to say this was one of the worst games ever.... It was more like a war, actually...

And why the hell did van Nistelrooij not play???
I don't understand van Basten. I'm sure if van Nistelrooij had played, things would have turned out a different way ...

maddy - June 25, 2006 10:27 PM (GMT)
I saw on the news they gave out like, ten bajillion red cards.
It's kind of like they're trying to get all the vital players off the teams...
:thinky:

meriadoc0412 - June 25, 2006 10:34 PM (GMT)
Yes, but the cards were justified...
In the end every team played with 9 players ....

Hestia - June 26, 2006 08:23 AM (GMT)
I can't say the game was boring! Geez, I was on the edge of my seat almost constantly.

In the previous matches, Van Nistelrooij hadn't performed as Van Basten had wanted. So Kuyt got a chance to play a whole match. After the first goal, Van Nistelrooij was warming up, but then all those yellow and red cards got in the way, and Van Basten had to bring in other player to get his defence in order.

I'll never forgive Figo for framing Boularouz! Boula didn't do anything, yet Figo put on a show so Boula ended up with getting his second yellow card. Poor guy...

It seems like I'm supporting all the wrong teams, so far I've been for Sweden, Ecuador (because they were the underdog) and Netherlands. In Switzerland's match, I'll pretend to support their opponent.

And yeah, Beckham throwing up was aweful... The commentator-guy said it must've been the heat, but I think he couldn't handle the pressure. I got sick when they panned to Posh al the time, showing how happy she was. That woman is just a witch!

maddy - June 27, 2006 12:34 AM (GMT)
AUSTRALIA LOST! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

It was so unfair too.
And it was over time.
CONSPIRACY!
We should have won that!
WE DOMINATED THOSE ITALIANS!
>=[

Glitter - June 27, 2006 07:27 AM (GMT)
I felt really sorry for Australia, they really didn't deserve to lose especially like that. :( I was really hoping they'd beat Italy, they certainly gave them a run for their money anyway!
