Title: Happy Easter

Hestia - April 14, 2006 09:55 AM (GMT)
Here is the place to hide eastereggs, paint eggs, eat eggs, cuddle the Easterbunny or celebrate Easter in any other way possible.

Today is Good Friday: the day Jesus was crucified. Is anyone up to date with the Easter-story?

I still don't have a clue what happened when. And I'm still confused about why they call the day Jesus was crucified "good Friday".

I don't celebrate it Easter. For me it's just an extra long weekend.

Maybe somebody could enlighten me about why we eat eggs. What's that have to do with anything.

But happy Easter nonetheless.

Don't forget to make a map of where you hide all the eggs or you'll severely regret it in a couple of weeks. :hee:

Happy Easter, everyone!!

I don't celebrate Easter either AND I ate a salami sandwich this morning.... Then I realized it's Good Friday (dunno why it's called "Good", here in Germany we call it "Karfreitag") and that you shouldn't eat meat today (because that's the day when the nails were hammered through Jesus' flesh)..

But as I'm not a believer at all ....

True, it's not "good" that Jesus was crucified, but I think it's called "Good Friday" because by dying, Jesus did grant us life after death. It fulfilled all the prophecies, etc, so in a way it's "good." *shrug*

Good Friday always makes me sad. :(

Oooops, too late. :hee: Ate bread with sausage yesterday.

 All those Christian holidays mean a ton of work for me since I work for the church. So I'm mostly happy when they're over.

But I like Easter, not because of any religious background but because it's in spring and I love spring. (Rolly)

Sooooo...

Happy Easter!

Well, my parents are Christians, (my brother's name is Christiaan for that matter  ) but we ate meat last night. They aren't Catholic, so I think there's a difference between Catholics and Protestants when it comes to meat.

About the eggs: they represent new life, I think. I saw a childrens program about Easter on the BBC a couple of weeks ago, and they also explained what the link was with eggs. But I kinda forgot...

My Easterweekend is very short: in the Netherlands we have a tradition of first and seconde Easterday (Sunday and Monday) as we have with Christmas and Whitsuntide/Pentecost (that's how the dictionary called it). Second Easterday (the monday) is usually spent in furnitureshops or gardencentres - weird traditions - but since me and my sister are really busy, we are already going back on Sundayevening. So Monday will be an ordinary Monday for me.

I'm sad that Jesus Christ Superstar isn't on telly this weekend. I usually watched it with my sister so we could sing along. Instead, that Mel Gibson movie will be aired. I have no interest in seeing that one, however.

It was quite big news a few years ago... it's supposed to reflect a more "true" picture of what really happened.

I dont really attach any special meaning to this time of year, but for people who do; hope you had a good Easter :)

Well, what is "more true" about a story that you have to believe for it to be true in the first place... Get my drift?
Passion is just a subjective version of Jesus's story, seen through the eyes of Mel Gibson and Friends. Not really my cup of tea.

So, has anyone found some eastereggs? I haven't, since no one hid some for me. But seeing that the weather is amazing today, I might go out and do some work in my (very small) garden (read: one plant in front of my window that needs some trimming). And I want to do some repotting of my indoor plants.
I'll have to restrain myself from going to gardencentres to buy some more plants and flowers. It's spring!
