March 5th isn't too far away, so I thought I'd start a thread so we can voice our opinions on who deserves the hunky statue. ^_^
See a list of the nominees!hmmm...okay...I haven't seen a lot of the nominated films, but what the heck...
BEST PICTUREBrokeback Mountain - Why? Well most of you would have to agree that it's a beautiful beautiful film.
BEST ACTORJoaquin Phoenix - Oh my goodness. I can picture a lot of you now..."What?! No! Heath all the way!" Maybe I'm imagining it a little extreme, but I'm sure it's somewhere along those lines... Anyways, where was I? Oh yes. Joaquin. Sure, I'm a little biased because he's one of my fave actors. And a little bitter that he lost the Oscar to Benicio Del Toro in 2001. But I must say...before Walk the Line came out, I was a little nervous when I heard he was going to do his own singing because...well...he isn't really the singing "type" if you know what I mean (or so I thought...). When I saw the film, though, I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY. He captured the Man in Black. He did his own singing and he learned to play guitar. (and I could just eat him up :drool1: lol). But I think it's time the Academy truly acknowledges the fab work he's done (if you've seen his "small" role in Return to Paradise, you know what I mean).
BEST ACTRESSReese Witherspoon - I used to just think of her as a cute, romantic comedy actress. My opinion, obviously, is very different now.

(yes, I stole the opportunity to post another Joaquin pic :red: )
ANIMATED FEATURECorpse Bride - I absolutely looooooooooove animation (which is partly why I'm majoring in it ;) ) and I love all the nominated films. I'll be happy no matter which one gets it. Yes, I have an extremely soft spot for Corpse Bride, but Howl's Moving Castle was amazing (Miyazaki's awesome!) and the subtle details and humor of Wallace and Gromit are first-rate. This is most definitely my favorite category.
DOCUMENTARY FEATUREMarch of the Penguins - No, I haven't seen the other films, but come one...who can resist a fluffy little penguin?
MUSIC (SCORE)Ummm....I guess I'd have to say
Brokeback Mountain. Yep. I've been a soundtrack junkie for years, so part of me wants to say John Williams just because he's like the king of film scores. But........yeah.....I think I'm gonna stick with Brokeback.
MUSIC (SONG)"In the Deep" from Crash - It's a beautiful song.

hmmm...I'm still thinking about the other categories. :)
