Title: Is this an experiment on fandom behaviour?
Tigerlily - January 26, 2006 08:47 AM (GMT)
sorry guys,
this is not Dom related but I just had to show you guys.
Apparently Billy Boyd has been chatting online with girls from a board all night long. Now I personally believe this is the biggest load of c**p I ever heard. What do you think.
It's been going on all nigt. Yeah, like Billy would have time for this.
I would very much appreciate theories on this incredibly odd thing.

Billy's a sweetheart, but I really don't think he would be chatting with random girls. Honestly, it seems kind of freaky. I mean sure, who wouldn't hope for him to IM them out of thin air, but it seems unrealistic. It could be that someone's pulling a prank or something. :Huh?: I don't know...
Very odd indeed.

Posers abound on the net. I've become really cautious since reading things like this. I don't believe it. Period.
But to shed some light on it, it could be a two-way deception. First, the Billy-management could be a poser, misleading the poor girl, who then talks to all her friends about it and starts a giant discussion on the net. Lots of people hope they will be picked for a chatsession with Billy, and the posers enjoy themselves very much when reading/hearing all about this.
Second, it could be that the girl is a fraud and wants to deceive other Billy-fans. It's all about status, "Oh, look at me, I got picked for a chatsession, and I don't even really like Billy anymore!" and again, this triggers a lot of exposure and discussion.
I'm sorry for being so bold, but it's just like you said: a bunch of crap... Of course, there is a chance it was real. But that chance is very small. I believe the posers got what they wanted: a discussion about nothing.

lol I was reading some of the thread over there and it seems like loads of girls got to chat with Billy. :hee: One I could maybe believe but that many seems a bit far fetched, not to mention the content of what the first person talks about, I mean your hero is waiting and you keep asking the same questions

hey, if I get a chance to chat with Billy I might ask him to tell Dom we would very much like to speak with him.
I could give him the link to this board and maybe Dom could register here and read some of the things. Hell, he could even post and if we're lucky something as wonderful as what happened there might happen here. We could all have hour long chats with Dominic.
my god how gullible can you get.
haha this one girl said he'd come back tonight to chat some more. Yeah, whatever.
Personally I don't think it's a waterproof prank. If you want people to believe it's real they should have stopped sooner. Now it's just getting ridiculous.
Anyway. I just wanted to say how decieving the internet can be. People can pretend to be anybody.

the disbelievers didn't sit still yesterday. Some of them tried to contact Stewart. He runs Billy's official site. He posted on that board. Just wanted to show you.
Hi,
My name's Stewart and I run Billy's website and was the administrator of the forum at bb.net.
I'm sorry to say that this person that you are talking to is not Billy. Billy has made it clear that he will not talk on-line to fans unless it was first posted at bb.net. This is a safety catch against people taking his good name in vain.
The people behind this charade are cruel and unthinking. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, I know how much you guys would love the chance to talk to Billy but I would rather know that you had the truth than be sold a lie.
Please do not fuel this imposter's sad delusions any further. Billy doesn't have a secratary named Alison, no-one from Brunswick is in the US with him (Brunswick are his UK agent after all) and he would'nt do a live web chat without consulting me first. These people are ill and if they are being supported by the admins of this website I would suggest sending them an e-mail explaining their actions.
Again I'm sorry that this has had to happen. If anyone needs any clarification please e-mail me.
Thanks,
Stewart
so that will be the end of it.

Seems the posers are on their mission again ... *shakes head*

lol, they were TOLD :spanker:
Some people just want to be popular I suppose. It would be the same as if anyone here said they were talking to Dom, a large post count = more trust. Perhaps the people involved were just tricked. :NahNah: Happens to the best of us.

Aww, but whoever did that obviously has no feelings. Do give them false hope?
