Title: Are you up for a Sinterklaas-celebration

Hestia - November 14, 2005 01:26 PM (GMT)
Miranda has suggested to me that we could hold our very own D-and-F-Sinterklaas-Party! If you've read the explanatory thread on Sinterklaas, you'll remember that in the Netherlands we hold a Secret Santa-like evening. We make a Sinterklaas-rhyme and often build a surprise which contains a gift.

We thought that we could do something similar online. When you want to participate, let us know. We will organise that everyone gets a "lootje" (email with the name of the person). For that person you will make a nice rhyme about (humiliating) things you have shared, and -depending on the enthusiasm of the participants- a small gift: something like a wallpaper or sigbar or avatar you have made. The important thing is to be creative and make it a nice experience.

Miranda, anything to add? Did I forget anything in my haste to put this idea out in the open? I am open to suggestions!

earendil - November 14, 2005 02:06 PM (GMT)
I love the idea!
We're doing something like this on a dutch board for several years and it's always so much fun!
Are there any 'lootjes' sites in english? Because if you do it on the dutch site you'll get all the emails in dutch. And before you get the name you're suposed to make something for, you first get a email where you have to write down your 'wishlist' (don't know if that's the correct english word :hee: )

Hestia - November 14, 2005 02:19 PM (GMT)
Yup, wishlist is the word. I know I've used one where one person put in all the names, and the website sent out just one email per person with a name. Nothing more.

Let's first just see how many people are planning to participate. And remember: it's not gonna cost you anything. We do it with "virtual" prezzies. And basically, just the participation is fun enough.

earendil - November 14, 2005 02:25 PM (GMT)
Ohw, I didn't know there are more sites for that.
Well I would love to participate (woW>

Tigerlily - November 14, 2005 10:01 PM (GMT)
Woohoo, I'm in. But you already knew that.

I have to add one more thing. I was thinking about how we're gonna organise it on Sinterklaas day. When everybody gets his rhyme and present. Because you're not supposed to know who made the rhyme for you it's no fun if you post it yourself, because we can all see who made it.
So, if you want to participate and you made your rhyme, send it to either Jo or me. We will put them up under our names.
The guessing who wrote what afterwards is part of the fun.

Knuxs - November 15, 2005 07:31 AM (GMT)
 Love the sound of it, count me in. :devilgriner:

Meriagrin Brandytook - November 28, 2005 07:58 AM (GMT)
Count me in, I need some good cheer right now.

Rosie - November 28, 2005 08:07 AM (GMT)
I still dont get it

Lofty - November 28, 2005 02:54 PM (GMT)
I like the idea its smart and good for the board morale. The big problem for me is that the next few days are going to be very busy. But it is a cool fun inventive idea so just give us some finer details already!! :lollol:

please

i_heart_Dom - November 30, 2005 08:07 PM (GMT)
oooh sounds like FUN!

Hestia - December 1, 2005 04:17 PM (GMT)
Oh dear... It's Sinterklaas in 4 days! Miranda, can we still pull this together?

I mean, I'll be busy with my own Sinterklaas-festivities this weekend...

It seems like I've bitten more off than I can chew.

Tigerlily - December 1, 2005 09:55 PM (GMT)
well, I don't think we'll be able to pull it off. I mean, Sinterklaas is Monday.
And I have my parents visiting me all weekend, so I won't even be able to do anyting.
I was thinking about posting all my posts in rhyme this monday. Just for fun and because it's so Sinterklaas to rhyme.

Too bad this idea didn't work out. It would have been fun.

Hacky - December 1, 2005 10:16 PM (GMT)
Dam it! I was away working so much the last few months. I would have liked to take part but like you have both said time is a factor... :(

Tigerlily - December 1, 2005 10:30 PM (GMT)
yeah, time is a wee bit of a problem. But it's okay. It's good to hear you like the idea. Well try again next year. haha.

Hacky - December 1, 2005 10:39 PM (GMT)
It really is a nice idea, I know some of you quite well but others I dont so it would be nice to know more. (I'm going for a "Know" record)

Could we maybe bang it into a xmas plan or is this something only for Sinterklass?

Tigerlily - December 1, 2005 10:49 PM (GMT)
we could do it for Christmas. I'll check with the rest of the Sinterklaas team (read Jo) to see what they (read she) thinks

so you want to know more about us? Hmmmm. we could make a "tell us a random thing about yourself" thread somewhere.

Hestia - December 2, 2005 09:53 AM (GMT)
Yeah, it could be combined with X-mas... then it'll be a Secret Santa. As a Sinterklaas-aspect we could hold on to the rhymes.

I like your idea of posting in rhyme on December 5th, Miranda! I might try that too! That will give all the others an idea of how Sinterklaas-rhymes usually are constructed.

Lofty - December 2, 2005 10:45 AM (GMT)
Thumbs up from me. Also do you think it might be worth getting one of those board emails we get from time to time, to give people lots of time to get it sorted this time?

I have to say its a good plan. :hugy:

Hestia - December 2, 2005 11:12 AM (GMT)
Ah, good idea! I'll talk to Rich about the board email. That'll be the best idea to contact everyone and get as much participation as possible. Because that would be ideal, if a lot of people will participate. Then we'd really have a December celebration for everyone to enjoy.

Hestia - December 5, 2005 12:28 PM (GMT)
Don't think me or Tigerlily mad
We're just in Sinterklaasmood, we're not sad
Today we post in rhyme, since it's tradition
To present rhymes on Sinterklaas, so please stop the bitchin'

Although the rhymes usually accompany a gift
Unfortunately for you, Sint is stuck in a lift
His presents will not be delivered this year
You must be happy with free beer
In Charlie's Shaft
No, we're really not daft...

Tigerlily - December 5, 2005 05:04 PM (GMT)
I found out rhyming is not an easy thing to do
I don't know what to say, I don't have a clue

I don't think I blabbed so much nonsense in all my life
I could take this crap to market and be a fish wife :hee:

but it's tradition so I will give it my best
I'm gonna put all your nerves to the test

If you're still here tomorrow I'll give you kisses
big hugs and lots of Christmas wishes

for when sinterklaas is gone Christmas may start
He'll make room for Santa, the old f.....

Hestia - December 5, 2005 06:50 PM (GMT)
Although Sint will be gone the day after tonight
I like to keep Santa away; they might start a fight
While Christmassongs and christmastrees
Are already at hand, I am more at ease
To enjoy them well after Sinterklaas
So for now there won't be any Christmas
Until December 10th has come and gone
My mood is Sinterklaasy, and after the tenth with him I'm done.

Hestia - December 12, 2005 03:34 PM (GMT)
*turns on intercom*

I want to repeat that everyone who has already said in this thread that they wanted to participate in the SinterClaus-event, please send a PM to me or Miranda. We need a confirmation and your emailaddresses.

Thanku.

Fawkes - December 13, 2005 09:29 PM (GMT)
I want to do it //waves to get their attention// (woW>

A PM you say?

meriadoc0412 - December 15, 2005 12:13 PM (GMT)
I'm all for it.
This really sounds fun!!!

Hestia - December 16, 2005 10:52 AM (GMT)
Just a FINAL reminder that today is the last day you can enter in the SinterClaus-celebration.

If you want to engage in some holiday cosiness (and a good laugh afterwards, when we're going to speculate who made what for who) let me know! I'll be here practically all day. Yes, I have no life. I live for the boards.
