I posted this on My Space (So some of you would have read it already)

(found this and thought it was clever, make what you will, and don’t forget next time elections come around... unless of course your a racist bigot)

Friday, September 2nd, 2005

Dear Mr. Bush:

Any idea where all our helicopters are? It's Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted. Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag.

Also, any idea where all our national guard soldiers are? We could really use them right now for the type of thing they signed up to do like helping with national disasters. How come they weren't there to begin with?

Last Thursday I was in south Florida and sat outside while the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed over my head. It was only a Category 1 then but it was pretty nasty. Eleven people died and, as of today, there were still homes without power. That night the weatherman said this storm was on its way to New Orleans. That was Thursday! Did anybody tell you? I know you didn't want to interrupt your vacation and I know how you don't like to get bad news. Plus, you had fundraisers to go to and mothers of dead soldiers to ignore and smear. You sure showed her!

I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don't let people criticize you for this -- after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike?

And don't listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers' budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn't cut the money to fix those levees, there weren't going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them -- BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ!

On Day 3, when you finally left your vacation home, I have to say I was moved by how you had your Air Force One pilot descend from the clouds as you flew over New Orleans so you could catch a quick look of the disaster. Hey, I know you couldn't stop and grab a bullhorn and stand on some rubble and act like a commander in chief. Been there done that.

There will be those who will try to politicize this tragedy and try to use it against you. Just have your people keep pointing that out. Respond to nothing. Even those pesky scientists who predicted this would happen because the water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting hotter and hotter making a storm like this inevitable. Ignore them and all their global warming Chicken Littles. There is nothing unusual about a hurricane that was so wide it would be like having one F-4 tornado that stretched from New York to Cleveland.

No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with this!

You hang in there, Mr. Bush. Just try to find a few of our Army helicopters and send them there. Pretend the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are near Tikrit.

Yours,

Michael Moore

P.S. That annoying mother, Cindy Sheehan, is no longer at your ranch. She and dozens of other relatives of the Iraqi War dead are now driving across the country, stopping in many cities along the way. Maybe you can catch up with them before they get to DC on September 21st.

Then this my spacer returned me this:

“Are you kidding me? That's the most ignorant letter I've ever read. And it's funny how easy it is for someone in the U.K. to say something about AMERICAN elections. And you spell biggot with TWO g's.”

:o
:o

Outraged. That was me! Look I’m so angry! :fight: :fight: :fight: I'm a mean fighting machine. :Wink1:

I thought she might have a point; I don’t live in the US so maybe I shouldn’t have that much of an interest in over seas politics. But then I thought WTF of course I do. So returned this:

QUOTE
“America is a superpower, its affects and actions are echoed throughout the world, and I’m perfectly entitled to take an interest in events which will affect my life in some profound ways. It would be ignorant of me to pretend they had no effect.

I did not write that letter, also if you have any points you want to pick out please do, but how is waiting 5 days to help people who are dying and in need of help actions of a good president?

And I would only spell BIGOT with Two Gs if I didn’t know how to spell, thank you.”

Was that too much do you think?

maddy - September 3, 2005 07:48 AM (GMT)
actually I think your reply was great. that person is the ignorant one for saying how you should spell bigot.

alas, you can only help the people who help themselves

onlyonekingDom - September 3, 2005 07:56 PM (GMT)
Very good response Rich. I can't believe she had the nerve to write that message, though. Crazy. Who cares if you have an interest in overseas politics? Politics these days are intertwined throughout the world. Let me slap some sense into her.

Knuxs - September 3, 2005 08:52 PM (GMT)
I'm happy to put up the whole conversation if anyone wants to read it. :) If not then its time to leave around about now...

This to me isnt really an issue so much about Religion but she brought it up. So if you want to agrue that religion is something better than the way things might come across in the messages below then please feel free to discuss it. But the final answer to the debate will almost always be "your free to believe in what ever you want".

Ok, I'm sorry about the bigot thing, you're right, it's only one g. I know you didn't write that letter, but what upset me was that you posted it, and agree with it. New Orleans was filling up with water, and it takes time to get the stuff they need together. He can't just be there right then to take care of those people. It takes time. What people should be focusing on is that he said it wasn't handled correctly. He admitted that. And now they have help. Why isn't anyone focusing on the fact that they HAVE HELP NOW?

Saying that someone is a 'racist bigot' because of who they vote for in an election is completely ignorant. I'm a supporter of Bush because he believes in some of the things I believe in, i.e. no abortions, no gay marriage. And you can call me what you want to, but I'm going to stick with those opinions, but in no way am I a racist bigot, and no one I know who voted for Bush is a racist bigot.

And by the way, I didn't say you couldn't take an interest, in fact I think it's great that you actually care.

I agree with the letter because its well, er, factual, everything the letter addressed is something that Bush did, he went on holiday, while people were dropping dead he told the world that they would make New Orleans a much better place. In a few weeks that comment would be inspirational, but now when all people want is to be rescued is just sick. He also said about him looking forward to the MI Senator's house being rebuilt. I was stunned by that. To look forward to building a house, in luxury, when most people dont even have a shack to hide under is disgusting. And I cant see any other way it can be taken.

Cuba had a hurricane in 2002, it was slightly less force, but not a single person died Why? Because they had an integrated disaster strategy, based in the community, so everyone knew where to go to, and when, and how and who with, and their community doctors went with them, and everything was laid on because of efficient planning, and this in a country that is poor and low-tech. America isnt poor, it has huge resources available to it, but was so slow to act.

Thats why I added the racist comment, New Orleans has a huge black population, his actions and comments demonstrate, that he cares less about the people there then else where. How is it wrong to conclude that Bush is racist when he takes his time to help, would this delayhave happened in D.C or any other main white person state?

To follow someone based on a few ideals is extremely dangerous, yeah I dont agree with your views, simply because it takes away your rights of a free and human choice its also suppressive to order how people should act, but I accept that if you are following organised religion and not god on a one to one basis thats the price you pay.

That's bull, but whatever. The people that were stranded there are mostly black. Black people in America have a lazy attitude and most of them think that they should have things handed to them, so those people who were left, are people who are on welfare and don't work, when they could, and if they had gotten off their butts and worked like everyone else has to, then they would have had a car to GET OUT like they were TOLD to do. And don't bash my religion. I'll worship God how I want to. And abortion is murder....killing something with a heartbeat....that's not murder? And according to my God, homosexuality is wrong, and that's why I'm against it.

From Rich

Guess what my dear your god also forbids you from wearing two types of fabrics at once (Lev. 24:10-16) so I hope you have been checking your clothes and ensuring they are 100% pure cotton. In fact there are a whole load of things:

1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not to Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev. 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbours. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

5. I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states that he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

6. A friend of mine feels that, even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there "degrees" of abomination?

7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

I do hope you follow them all to the latter because lets face it the bible must be obeyed, and you cant follow it some times and not others right?

Youre a bigot, you assume that all black people are the same, and make huge generalizations about them. Its ironic that on your profile you claim you want to meet open minded people yet your one of the vilest closed minded people I have ever come across. Youre a disgrace to your religion and I shed no remorse in deleting you as a friend, and if there is a god with judgement at the end of all things, I'll see you in pits of hell.

edit, she sent a message back. I did not. And will not. Because this isnt even a debate anymore its a preaching:

QUOTE
You should read Romans chapter 8. Satan is using you to try to pull me down, and I'm not going to let it happen. I hope you can break your tie to Satan and realize that he is using you. The fact is, I worship God and I believe that Jesus is His Son. I also believe that the Holy Bible (I use the King James Version) is His word. So whether or not I'm into organized religion or worshipping God on my own (which btw that is what I do) it is still wrong to be gay or bi. (refer to Romans 1:21-32, Leviticus 20:13, Jeremiah 6:15) You can call whatever names you feel suit me. But when the time comes and God calls His people to Heaven, I know where I'll be going (refer to John 3:16, Romans 6:23, Revelation 3:20, Romans 10:13, Romans 10:9, John 5:24, 1 John 5:13, John 20:31), and it isn't Hell.

Predictable as always she goes for the big but vague references *shakes head*, ignores the key details I pointed out in my last point.

Anyone can follow this line of thought:

One part of the bible says it's wrong to lie with another man or something. (That’s a detailed point, something you must NOT do)

Another says it’s wrong to eat shellfish (cut hair on the temples/to work Sundays etc). (The same as above a detailed point about what you must NOT do)

So why is it OK for Christains to eat shellfish but not be gay although the bible forbids both?????

TWO orders both the "word of god" one is forgotton about and the other is enforced. Why is that?

Now how is it right that your go to heaven if you only chose parts of what you want to believe in, or obey. Where does it say you only have to follow certain parts. To me that makes no sense at all. *confused face*

Still I’m now possessed by Satan by the sounds of it :hee: oohhh so I might be trying to bring you all down. Maybe it’s best to burry your head in the book and try and find a counter evil spirit remover. Opps that’s witchcraft isn’t it, I’m sure that’ equals a spell in hell. :dkiss:

Sorry, but its not even a logical argument, people aren’t following what the bible says, they follow what the priest or vicar tells them to follow… hmmm maybe they have been possessed by Satan too.

Somehow I don’t think being glad people are dying is something a god would consider “good” anyway.

I dont think I will post in this thread again, so that's me done. Unless anyone can clear up the basic questions of course :) If you want to side with the girl thats fine to :) , maybe you could explain her postion better than she has, because frankly I dont get it.

maddy - September 5, 2005 05:52 AM (GMT)
you know, just thought I'd add, you totally pwnd her in that bible thing you sent her!

v. good argument you put up there ay Rich. I don't like this "girl"...

DonkeyLass - February 5, 2006 10:02 PM (GMT)
I just have to post to this. You made such good points by bringing out what the bible says is right and wrong. I don't get why it's wrong to be gay but right to sell your daughter to slavery. :craze1:

I'm not going to put anyone's religion down since I beleive in God myself. But I think he would be more accepting if they talk about how wonderful he is, wouldnt he?

Lofty - February 6, 2006 11:43 AM (GMT)
Being religious or not, she shouldnt have said those people desvered to die thats just plain sick

Its not the bible saying its wrong etc, its just the people who "preach" from it. :hee: like some Christains dont care either way and others get so uptight, confused much!

I mean what does "Dont like with another man" really mean anyway? Does that include kissing and having sex? :hee:

Of course it does. :Wink1: And probably thinking not-so-clean thoughts about a guy as well.

There goes my ticket to heaven. :hee:

Sorry, but I have just read this, even though it's from last September. Excellent points, Rich! :yo:

And I agree with Lofty, saying that people deserve to die is sick. Period.
