Title: new theme: BACK TO SCHOOL

Tigerlily - August 26, 2005 12:22 PM (GMT)
It's about time for a new theme. Since most of you are going back to school after summer break I thought it would be a good idea to use this for a theme.
I don't know for how long we can go on talking about it :hee:. We'll see how it works out.
We can talk about all kinds of things. For instance: (and I might say this all wrong since I don't have a clue how systems in other countries work) what education do you want to follow or what do you want to be when you "grow up".
things you like and hate about school. Memories of your nicest and worst teachers. Favorite subjects. You know, stuff like that.

I won't close the summer break toppics just yet. So if you have something to say about that, that's fine by me.

Have fun with the new theme.

I'll open some topics later today. If you can think of one, by all means, do open it.

and start posting

and have a nice day

bye

I hate Modern History.

Some years I loved going back to school, others I hated it. The years where the course's run as two, I adore. like GCSE's and A-Levels (so the last 4 years of school) you had the same teachers the same friends, there was nothing to be scared of going back too.

This year, I'm looking forward to it, I got a good set of As results, and get away from my annoying mom. She hates me :DARK: hating my like of LOST was the last straw. So glad I'll be off to school again, and away from this controlling summer.

Sorry the what meeting? I havent been reading all the threads so I might have missed it, could you explain it quickly? Are you still skipping classes? :hee:

Wish we could sometimes but he have a register or role call every class. BUT because we are in our last year we can go home in the afternoon if we have no classes and we get Wednesday afternoons off. (woW> Its great being a senior.

I just started back at (sixth form) college yesterday. I got abysmal AS results, I got a C in Theatre Studies, E in General Studies, U in History, Psychology and Law. But because I got 8 marks short of a pass in Law, they're letting me do A2 so long as I resit Machinery of Justice in January (I got 10 out of 90), and Sources of Law (I got 48- the pass mark was 46) in June. If I don't get a D in January, then I'll be dropped back down to AS which will be a disaster because I'm already a year behind, having failed my AS's the first time round in school, the college I go to has a maximum age of 19, so I HAVE to leave at the end of this year, and I'm only doing one other A2 (Theatre Studies). Unless you count General Studies, but it's barely worth doing that, most universities won't recognise it.

:) that's not the end of the world. Resits are always good because it kind of gives you another shot. I'll have some early next year too.

GS, I think is always nice to have on a UCAS form, but your right only about half of uni's seem to take any notice of it.

Can I ask why you did so bad? I'm not trying to be rude :red: . But if this is your second go at doing, havent you learnt maybe how to answer the questions and stuff? Maybe your more into things which dont have a written test like Theatre Studies, you seem to have done well with that. Part of me wishes I had chosen that subject or Drama, but I was too shy. What's it like? I'm a little green with envy right now.

Part of me enjoys school and part of me...not so much. I only have school 3 days a week this semester, but I have 3 classes that are each 6 hours long...those make me tired. <>Z

It's fine to ask. I'm gonna sound really big-headed now, but all my life, I've never had to actually TRY all that hard to pass exams or anything, I didn't revise at all for my GCSEs but I still passed every single one. So with my AS's, I just carried on as normal. It hit me like a truck. So after the exams, when I knew I'd done miserably, I asked to resit the whole year, and the head of year told me to ask the subject teachers. I asked Classics- fine. I got to Psychology, and the teacher said that the head of year had already been to her and told her to say no. So I left. I came to college determined to do better, but... I dunno what happened. I suppose I'll never change.

And Theatre Studies has 2 written exams and 1 practical, and the practical only makes up 40% of the mark.

Hacky - September 11, 2005 11:48 PM (GMT)
Yeah I know what you mean, GCSE's and things were very easy when its looked at along side A Levels, you have to play the system as it were. If your school teaches you what the examiners are looking for you do much better than if they teach you to think for yourself. Its not what exams should be about, but schools get more funding if they do better grade wise. >W<

Well fingers crossed this year is a better one for you. :)

Mrs Monaghan - September 12, 2005 11:40 AM (GMT)
I've got everything crossed.

BTW, HOW cool is me siggy! My mate Steph on Westlife X-rated made it for me. I nicked the av from someone on Westlife Officials. I never go on there, the mods are psycho freaks who ban people on the basis that they don't like them. X-rated was set up for ppl who can't stand officials, and half of us ended up being banned from officials (I wasn't). It's now become the main rallying point for ppl who have been banned and people who are just sick of it. The mods on offish despise it's existence because it's miles more popular and everyone's so close. Newbies are often terrified to post in case we don't accept them! But we're all really nice, honest!!

Whoo... slightly ot there! :red:

Hacky - September 22, 2005 07:41 AM (GMT)
 the mods here are a great bunch dont think you need to worry about random banning.

Yes I do like your sig :hyper: he was such a cute boy - what happened? No just J/K, he looks better now. There is a thread somewhere here that lets others give your sig and picture a score, you might want to ask there too.

Quick spam of the boards then its back to class for me. (free period) <>Z
