Title: explosions in London
Tigerlily - July 7, 2005 10:23 AM (GMT)
Oh my dear. This is horrible. I tried to read the bbc site but it's down. (probably because everybody's trying to get to that site)
I'm severely shocked. This is not good. Not good at all.
From CNN:
LONDON, England (CNN) -- A bus was ripped apart in an explosion in central London today and several blasts rocked the Tube network leaving dozens of people injured.
The Tube blasts at the height of the rush hour on Thursday were initially blamed on a power surge.
But amid the chaos eyewitnesses reported that a packed double decker bus in the Russell Square area had been severely damaged in a blast.
Union officials blamed the Tube blasts on a series of bombs, and Scotland Yard confirmed the bus explosion and said it was dealing with "multiple explosions" in London.
A second bus was reported to have been damaged in Tavistock Square.
Describing the Russell Square blast, eyewitness Belinda Seabrook told the UK Press Association she saw an explosion rip through the bus as it approached the Square.
"I was on the bus in front and heard an incredible bang, I turned round and half the double decker bus was in the air," she said.
She said the bus was travelling from Euston to Russell Square and had been "packed" with people turned away from Tube stops.
Travellers emerged from underground tunnels covered in blood and soot. Scotland Yard declared the emergency a "major incident."
Emergency services were called to London's Liverpool Street Station after reports of an explosion shortly before 9 a.m.
A short while later, London Underground said there had been "another incident at Edgware Road" station in north west London.
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene. We have sent a number of vehicles to Liverpool Street station."
Police told the UK Press Association there were "walking wounded" and said paramedics had responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk."
"There are walking wounded, but that is as much as we know at the moment," said the spokesman.
He confirmed that the incident took place on the Metropolitan Line between Aldgate and Liverpool Street and said the line has been evacuated. King's Cross, Liverpool Street and Aldgate stations have also been cleared.
The incident caused major disruption to the entire network with stations across the capital being closed.
Passengers were told that all services were being suspended because of a power fault across the network.
A City of London Police spokesman said: "We have closed Liverpool Street station as well as Aldgate.
"We believe there was some sort of explosion. There are some walking wounded at Aldgate. "We are not sure of the scale of the incident. Reports are still coming in."

Its OK, he doesnt live any where near there. I dont think anyone here does....anyway its such a big city its very doubtful that anyone we know will be caught in it.
As normal the public are going into overdrive and making it sound a lot worse than what it really is. However people have died, I think the count is 3 so far, so in that sense perhaps the chaos is justified.

It's a small world. A friend of mine lost a friend of hers in the Barcelona bombing. And my friend lives in Holland.
But you're probably right. I don't think anybody we "know" will be in it.
I sometimes wonder what if would be like if anything like this happens in the Rotterdam subway system. I used to travel on it daily when I still worked there. So stuff like this scares the sh*t out of me.

Some very close friends of my family have a daughter in London, I don't know if they've heard from her yet. I hope she's alright, I haven't seen her in years but we were always good friends when we were kids.
It's just a matter of wait and hope.
i_heart_Dom - July 7, 2005 01:47 PM (GMT)
oh man. :( so how many people were killed by it? is it 3 or 90? i hope all of the injured people make it ok. i hope they hear from your friend too.

All the attacks were bombs, and they use kinda that do more damage over a wider distance than focal. Causes more terror I suppose. So a lot of people have been hurt, but few have had died or been really hurt.
It looks like 4 bombs, some on buses and one on the subway, but we wont get the full story until the people at the top decide to reveal it.

on the news here, and on the front page of Yahoo, it says that 40 have died and over 300 have been injured. theyre showing the area all over the news and even on MTV news. it looks devastating. :(
edit: and now Yahoo says 700 were injured

The attacks on London today are just awful. :( From what I can gather there are about 35 confirmed dead, but I'm pretty sure the death toll will rise. :( There were 4 bombs in total, three on tubes and one on a bus, although it has been said that the one on the bus may not have been supposed to go off then but may have been destined for another tube train.
I only live 45 minutes on the train from London and actually used to work there before I had my son. I must admit I did used to worry about terrorist attacks when I was working up there and was actually on my way to Victoria Station one day when the IRA set off a bomb there which left peple dead and I actually heard the bomb that was launched into 10 Downing Street's garden go off as I only worked over the road. :( I work locally now and do feel safer.
My brother lives in London and I have two friends who work there but they are all ok as is my OH's sisters OH who actually works very close to where one of the bombs went off. :( They are all struggling to get home now.

I have had good news, my friend is actually away on holiday in Corfu, so she's safe.
i_heart_Dom - July 7, 2005 08:10 PM (GMT)

I still can't believe this happend! I haven't been online for a few days so I couldn't reply to this earlier.....
I'm so sad and scared! Why do people do things like this? So many people lost their lives and so many are injured badly! I can get so angry about this!
My co-worker is from Sri lanka and he didn't loose any family members whit the Tsunami but his sister lives in London and he hasn't been abble to reach her yet.... I so hope she's alright and maybe he heard from her today (bEg)
I'm also pretty sure the Netherlands will be next on the list and I have to go to Amsterdam by train on friday and I really don't want to go! What if something happens? I'm so scared!

Ive been hearing about all this on the news and I pray for everyone in this tragic event and their families. I just dont understand how heartless people like that could cause such sadness. :(
