Board News week 20, 3rd to the 9th of July


Advertising the board

If you know of someone you think we should affiliate with then I’ll be more than happy to look into it, but you have to give me some clue!! :hee: Since we have been online I’ve gotton a few emails from people saying they would like to link, but I have no idea who they are. It’s awesome if you want to act as a go-between but you have to work with all involved.

More search sites have put D and F into their search engines, so easy enough to get here.

Banners:
The New Banners are in place and the 8th placed banner will change every week, thus everyone who entered into the comp will grab a slice of the glory, but not as much as the top 7 banners which will go unchanged every week.

Still no Mandy, and few banners received by yours truly, and don’t have the time to go chasing it up and getting them submitted, if you think your be up for the D and F event coordinator job PM!!!!!!!! :pups:

Clean Up
Some of the threads have broken links in them, they don’t look all that good and can always cause problems, so if you come across an old thread (i.e. the post must be over 3 weeks old) then click the “Alert Moderator” button, and tell them the post needs fixing.

Credits
Over the next few weeks a Credit thread will be active, this will show the people who have made D and F what it is today in terms of modifications, graphics etc when its active if you feel you have been missed off then please alert me so it can be fixed.

Posts too short?
Last week it was brought to my attention about the length of posts.
I’d like to think D and F was fairly open to most posts, but at times I feel that too short post are occurring all too often. I’ve noticed a influx of single word’s or even single LETTERS for a post. There isn’t anything you can add to one word answers, (Games and certain topics excluded! i.e. the story game is only 5 words a post)
I don’t mind it every so often and if its done in a response to a joke of some kind, but if its just to add one single comment weeks after the original has been posted, your post count will be altered accordingly. It takes time to load up the pages, and if after 2 minutes its just to read something like “LoL” or “Me to” I’m sure you can appreciate the annoying aspect of that. :Wink1:


Upgrade

In the next few weeks/months (The upgrade time is uncertain) the board controllers will be upgrading all the servers to a newer version, any huge change like this may create problems, I suggest that you archive PM’s and save anything on the board you are particularly fond of in case it gets lost in the “move”. It’s unlikely but parts of the date maybe be un retrievable so its best to be safe than sorry.

If we don’t get notice the board may be offline for a while, so please try not to worry if you can’t get here. I have almost all your emails on record. If you are using a email different to the one you have registered with PM ME WITH IT ASAP so I can update records.


Usernames
If you want a change of name then let me know. Bare in mind that your old name will no longer be able to be used when you log in, so make sure you change it to something your remember.

Vacancies:

AAHHHH come on someone must want this job. All you do is collect the banners from members and set up a poll once every few months. Promote it stuff like that! This is the last week I will ask if anyone wants the job, afterwards I will just do it. (So it wont have any original flair)

Objective Interpretation (Facts)


July 2nd (Saturday) with 107 posts was the best day this week. The worst day was June 28 (Tuesday) with 54 posts. A difference of 53 posts with the average posts count per day reaching 75 (25 DOWN from last week.)

For the first time a Saturday becomes the only day to not only have the highest score but also the only day this week to reach over 100 posts. The week started higher then degraded mid week before It steady rose until the end of the week.

This is a 25% decrease on lasts week’s postings, placing this week 10th out of 14 weeks of chart data. With this week 468 posts below the top weeks posting.


Subjective Interpretation (My view only)

A slightly worse week then last. Less Dom scores one point for explanation, as does the continued warm weather. A few regular posters were/are on holiday during the time period thus numbers of available posters were reduced.
Other than that I cant deduce any significant reasons.

UPGRADE news

It was been advised that all mods (not the people <lol> )/changes be removed before the upgrade, which means the board will become VERY simple again, no skins etc. After the change has taken place they will return. So please dont be too freaked out if that happens.

Post and counts will NOT change.

All smilies will be deleted. :( Which may mess up the board in a big way with codes and what not. I will attempt to back them all up in the next few days and try and re add them back.

Search should be re enabled, as will the custom avatar gallary. Also a shop feature may be in place, thus you can buy D and F goodies. :hee: It may be possible for users to change their own usernames. A topic marker will come into effect, thus you can see which topics you have had an input, handy if you want to read comments about your comments, (will only really have a huge effect if the board gets bigger)

And thats all the real info I have at this time. The upgrade date is still unknown....

OK new Lost area! Yes yes most of you will tell me that the episode forum was a dum idea as no one uses them! But to be far most of the board members are from the US, and I only set it up over half way through the current airing of season one… I still think it’s a good idea and would like to give it another shot, and with a bit of luck we will have some more members to discuss season two in the coming weeks… please give it a try. I have found a slight problem with the 'new post' marker, before i used to see a little blue arrow thing, and I could click it to go to the first unreadpost. Now we have the words new post but they're not clickable so I have to go through the entire thread to find the first unread post. If I click the link in the right hand column, I still have to work back to find the last post I read.
