Pilot Part Two
Again the title is linked, but more in a way of following directly on rather than being part of the arc.
After a quick recap it starts this time Charlie is much more logical in his comments and has a sense of desperation perhaps the “monster” attack did that. He has a brief moment with Kate and you learn more about his desire to have people around him and know him, but only to an extent, he lies to Kate and you see his flash back on the plane, cue running past Jack and Rose from Jacks flashback last episode. He gets his fix and prepares to flush the stuff away, you learn here this is why he goes into the toilet in Pilot Part One, to retrieve his drugs. Some chance misses and luck later he lands intact, some ride hey boy? ><()
You see more of Claire but she is over shadowed by Shannon’s vain nature and shows no concern for Claire and the baby.
Stronger than ever you learn that Jin is either a) very traditional or b ) very protective of Sun as he forces her to button her top while talking with Michael. Walt and Michael find a set of handcuffs and stereotypes are made right away about who they belong to… I think that’s important for the viewer, that you shouldn’t believe anything. (Hmmmm)
Sawyer and Sayid fight and its clear they have a mutual dislike, Sayid quickly becomes much more valuable to the group with his skills in survival knowledge and his placid nature gets him many supporters. Although the fact he fought against the USA might be received stronger from US watchers, it will be interesting to see if J.J takes this to an equality stance later.
Jack and Kate talk more and again Jack attempts to exert his fatherly role and stop her going, it would be very easy to turn this show into Jack’s entire story and have him go on the hike instead, but Kate wins him over and prepares to lead the group into the mountains.
Jin attempting to feed the group is great to watch as Hurley is clearly not having the fish like meal nor does Claire to start with although she does in the end and is happy as she feels the baby, but its interesting too see that one of the prime concerns for everyone despite language boundaries is survival but in an entire group form rather than every man for himself.
Again Shannon and Boone spark, although she seems to be vulnerable Boone has none of it and gets her worked up, they both join the hike group along with Charlie, Sayid and Sawyer, lots of chance for huge conflicts but for the most part they work as a team.
Jack talking with Michael again shows that his son and him are almost strangers, soon Walt and Locke are chatting and things become clear that Michael is a stranger in his sons life. They play a game and develop bonds over a secret……
Some scary things take place like polar bears, and Shannon screaming ><() . A gun appears and acts as a symbol of power and authority.
We learn that Kate knows “the guy with the shrapnel” and again appears to have lied to Jack for what ever reason, from the conversation the guy is much more than just “some man on the plane”……
Finally the craziness continues…Shannon interprets the conversation of the transmitter, but not before Charlie gets to pun his French joke. They learn they aren’t alone on the island, or rather learn they aren’t the first to be stranded….Pity that no one alive has been there for 16 years… the mystery deepens and the question on everyone’s lips “Where are we?” continues to remain unanswered......
