Title: Pilot Part One Talk
Description: Basic talk about Pilot
Knuxs - April 22, 2005 02:06 PM (GMT)
Ok first thread in new area, for most of you this thread will old news, but it would be nice if you could add comments as you see fit. Therefore only the members from the UK and people watching Lost on the DVD will be reading this as NEW.
Lets get started shell we, pretty much when ever I watch a episode I will write up my thoughts, themes points etc. So don’t worry about ever reading a spoiler. Post up what you thought below or start a new thread if you have a more specific issue, the actors, and pictures, maybe talk about the filming/flaws/mistakes/facts anything!
Pilot part One…..
The title has a clear double meaning; firstly it’s the “Pilot” as in first tester etc. Second it’s based around the airplanes Pilot and what’s happen to everyone…
So it begins, the title roles and the white Lost title moves towards you and twists a little, very attractive and after waiting for so long it sends a shiver down my spine.
Next we see a man in the trees, I did think that his jacket had got impaled to start with, but clearly he was out of it, falling out of a plane will do that to even the best of us. White Dog looks at him and runs off, very bizarre. He heads out of the woods and then we see some of the most beautiful scenery on the whole island, a few screams and then he heads deeper onto the beach and the disaster zone complete with annoying airplane winds from the engines. This is where you meet almost all the fixed cast some are calling their counter parts such as Jin calling for Sun, everything is chaotic and has no structure, Shannon is just standing screeching and people are trapped, nothing is fixed except the camera locked onto Jack, boom a guy gets sucked into the engine and the annoying noise halts, but poor guy. Jack moves around the beach and in his doctor role allows us to meet a lot of the cast and learn a bit about them, although what you see cant be taken at face value, Boone is some foolish lifeguard with a pen fixation and Hurley seems to have a mental problem, unable to string more than two words together, that for me was excellent, the post traumatic aspects shaped the initial part of the story but in a way that linked with the viewer watching; complete confusion. A huge explosion and Charlie gives us the first laugh so far, unless you liked Boone and his pens. ><()
Soon the named credits role Then it truly starts, the epic that is Lost…..
I like the start to Jack and Boones relationship, its clear from the beginning that Jack has a command/father role to play with the group and people immediately respect him no doubt that’s down to his Doctors status.
Jack and Kate, in the woods for me is good, it’s so timid and yet the formations for the future of the two, I will admit I didn’t think much of Evie before I saw her in lost, how wrong was that was. They have the “fear talk” and again continue the first bonds of friendship and ultimately mutual respect.
More of Charlie being like a child, he is innocent and just doesn’t seem phased about anything, I cant wait to see how that develops.
Shannon and Boone, strange, she is too relaxed and stubborn and he is to up tight and stubborn, typical brother and sister and always pushing each other to the worst parts of their personalities.
Jin and Sun are intriguing right from the start, the language boundaries stop them interacting with everyone else and yet her submissive nature…
Hurley I like more and Claire is so sweet and I adore her Australian accent.
The story is rapidly explained with both Jack and Kate talking about the details and then the flash backs, obviously its important for the viewer to believe what is going on and although people’s pasts are mixed into their futures, its like they need to keep moving forward in a way that is not only new to the survivors but also to the viewer, i.e. know one really knows each other, just like we don’t know anyone. The best thing for me so far is the way everyone’s story is interlinked not only on the island but before the crash, Jack and Rose talk after Charlie runs past and later you see it all from Charlie’s point of view. So in a way everyone is linked together much like a family.
Then the spooky starts, the weird noise’s in the forests and the trees moving to allow a huge thing past….The bonds between Charlie, Kate and Jack are interesting to watch, each one is different and adds to the mission in some ways, Charlie is for the casual viewer who doesn’t seem phased by all the death and mystery, Kate a viewer who is more worried but at the same time enjoying the show, and Jack is for the viewer who is addicted to finding out what’s going on, I think the Jack fans will wither be looking at the spoilers all the time or constantly spending time trying to work out what’s going on, like brain teasers etc.
Finally we learn that the most basic form of escape i.e rescue isn’t going to happen and they will have to think of more abstract ways to get away. The "monster" attacks and we see the trio running from something, this early on you know that any cast member can be killed off without a directors/writers love for his characters to protect them…so its very scary………finally we see the gutted body of the pilot…who or what did that, only time will tell…

Rich, how can anyone add anything to what you said??? :craze1: :hee:
I really loved Pilot part 1, which by the way was called "Gestranded" (i.e. "Stranded") in German TV.
The viewers seem to be a part of the cast. At least in the beginning when Jack finds himself in the jungle without knowing what is going on.
Everything seems so weird, then the landscape and then : BANG! Catastrophe!!!
Just brilliant.
You get to know what happened, you get to know who's who AND you get to know that there seems to be something uber-wrong on that island.
Lurve it!
So, YOU ALL EVERYBODY must keep watching it once you started.
It's so addictive!

Awww, I still remember my first time like it was yesterday. (the first time I watched lost that is). I was freakishly nervous about it and acting like a stupid hyperactive maniac all day.
And then when it began, me and the crashing into the wall and the nearly falling down and de pointing and the squealing and the CHARLIE, CHARLIE, CHARLIE!
See, still get hyper just thinking about it. #haha#
It just gets better and better every time I watch it.

^hehe, same here. ^^
by the time I saw lost for the first time last year, it was only available on pay tv (it still is now, but it also airs on free tv since april 4th) and I got the permission to use pay tv only a few ours before the pilot started. *g*
and yeah... on pay tv they only show the english version (what is soooo GREAT) but well... I'm german so I had many problems till...hm, let's say the 3rd episode. ^^ sometimes I was quite lost, like, "wait, what the hell is going on?!" *lol*
but I remember when I saw the first 10 minutes of the pilot for the first time I was so shocked and so I-don't-know-what that I was obsessed from the first second... and I still am today. *g*

Only saw this last night, only started in Irish TV then, I really enjoyed it, was very good opening episode, I haven't gotten all the characters names yet, but I liked them all apart from Boone, I don't like him at all... (sorry to any Boone fans) but maybe he'll get better, I won't be writing him off just yet. ;)

Great news, Sarah! Am also happy to see you back here (--)
It took me some time to get all the names with the faces too. But what else can you expect from a televisionseries with over 12 people in a starring role!

Thanks Jo, good to see you too, work is slightly less mad these days so have had a chance to post a bit here. (--)
Yeah I'm starting to get them straight from Lost sites, but am being careful as I don't want to see spoilers! ;)

I don't think you'll be able to stay away from spoilers. I tried my best but didn't succeed. It sucks.
This board is actually the safest place I know. No running into spoilers. Unless you want to of course.
I also thought Boone was a bit dumb the first time I saw him. But cute dumb. Like when he collected all the pens. Didn't know which one was right. That was stupid in a sweet way.

#haha# Totally true, everyone here has been soooooo good, my leak came from a US main board who quitely rightly talked about what happend in just a normal way. And Bang that was it. I now think I know the worst spoiler of the whole season....
I guess the worst worst worst spoiler will be out and about in 12 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont WANT TO KNOW HOW THIS SEASON ENDS  (yet)

We as Europeans should huddle together in a dark cave, far away from the States. I also know the worst spoiler, someone in my msnlist once had a recap of a specific episode in her name, and I don't want to be spoilered anymore. I felt really terrible after reading the spoiler.
It's always the spoilers that get you when you're off guard that hurt the most.

oh i don't know anything.. i am still clueless... and i hope i stay that way....
Hestia - May 26, 2005 11:23 AM (GMT)
You won't hear a thing from me! *zips lips*

This is very odd.
Charlie got to the front of the plane to stash his drugs in the loo right? Because when they get to the front of the plane in the jungle he goes into the loo and gets them. Yet the front and back of the plane were sperated from the middle when they crashed, so how did Charlie get into the middle of the plane with the others, because we see him strapping himself into a seat near the toilet dont we.
Help = is it a mistake or something darker?
