Title: Alias

gmanuk - April 11, 2005 10:11 PM (GMT)
Hiya

I just thought I'd start a thread for this fantastic TV show, considering there seems to be a big following of JJ's other show Lost here.

For those of you who don't know what Alias is about it's basically a spy show revolving around Sydney Bristow played by Jennifer Garner. For the first season and a bit of the show Syd's trying to juggle her life as a double agent working for the CIA and undercover agency SD-6 (who are the baddies).

Where the show is absolutely brilliant are all the various different cliffhangers that they throw at the audience. Some of which leave you with you jaw on the floor cos you never saw them coming!

The supporting cast are also top notch, from the devious Sloane to lovable computer geek Marshall. The show really came into it's own in the second season with the fall of SD-6 and the Alliance. I won't say any more than that in case I spoil it for people who've not seen any further.

I think that's enough from me for now. Anyone else who wants to share in the Alias lovefest then feel free.

And I apologise in advance if that all that I've posted above sounded like some kind of bad advert. <craze>

Lofty - April 12, 2005 12:02 PM (GMT)
This show is the best ever (after Lost!) its so cool we are on season 3 at the moment, not sure if we will even get to see season 4 over here on normal tv. Nooooooooooooooo! <lol> get it on Dvd otherwise.

I like the bad guy Sark the most, I'm hoping that he turns good again!

gmanuk - April 12, 2005 09:42 PM (GMT)
Oh so you're watching on five too then? Cos I don't think they'll end up showing season 4 either. But if we have to wait for it come out on DVD it'll be some time as season 3 is only JUST getting released here at the end of May. (Hmmmm)

I love Sark too - especially with his new short hair. Although when has he ever been a good guy? <C>>

Lofty - April 13, 2005 03:30 PM (GMT)
yeah its showing on 5, really so the dvd is out soon, I'll look out for that. Pity about season 4, I did hear that it's much better than 3, and everyone thinks 3 is crap, (I think its ace so 4 must be excellent) Its running with lost right, so maybe C4 will buy it and show it before Lost like they do in the US.

Sark, ok never good but he did help them a little and was in it much more, his short hair is much nicer your totally on my wave length. Do you like Vaughan as well and D'vice (Its a wity joke on my part (&*"£> )

Monday was very good, I want more Syds mum :( Is she in it do you know?

Knuxs - April 13, 2005 06:57 PM (GMT)
I LOVE J.J! He is such a cool writer. And come on his shows are just totally mind blowing. I think season 3 is good too, I did read that people thought it was rubbish, but so far its been very, very shocking. (And in my book that’s good! Oh and Locke from Lost is in it) ><()

I remember thinking that if I didn’t have the DVD’s for season one or two then I would have been so annoyed as the cliff hangers were just out of this world. Maybe that’s not true this year, but then again maybe it is. I watch it late at night and I’m tired so maybe I’m just not getting in to it as much. <C>>

I like Sydney’s different hair’s and outfits and Jack’s plan talking is cool. I really don’t like the episodes where you see the end first, its good but it just seems silly. BUT I did love the one a few weeks ago when they were going to be killed by a firing squad.

Will is the best, shame he isn’t in it as much this season or next :( . Did they write him out or did the actor not want to commit to another year?

Vaughn's not so bad though I have to say his Sark impression this week was very sexy.

As for Irina I'll put it in white text as not to spoil it for anyone who doesn't want to know.

SPOILER: Irina is apparently going to be returning in the 4th season finale

I have to agree with Knuxs that the cliffhangers this season don't seem to be as jaw dropping as in the first couple of seasons.

Lofty - April 18, 2005 09:45 AM (GMT)
Thank you GmanUK that sounds fab (woW> I wonder who Syds real dad is and I did hear she has

SPOL; half sister, so maybe Sloan is one of there dads?

I dont think its onto night so really annoyed! (Grrr!)

gmanuk - April 18, 2005 08:58 PM (GMT)
Well I can tell you as far as I know that SPOILER: Sloane is NOT Syd's father. Like he said the other week he had an fling with Irina and as a result she had another daughter - Nadia. So Syd has a half-sister, whose father is the man she HATES more than anyone in the world!

And unfortunately it does look like it's not on tonight OR next week cos of some lameass televised poker contest! <C>>

I've emailed five to ask them if they intend to show the remaining episodes of S3. I've not heard back from them yet but I'll let you know when I do.

gmanuk - April 20, 2005 09:13 PM (GMT)
I've just got an email back from Five saying that Alias will be back on 2nd May. So it was only a brief break in episodes - thankfully! (DanCe)

Knuxs - April 21, 2005 09:39 AM (GMT)
Good that silly poker rubbish was absurd, they must think so little of Alias, and puting it on so late at night is it any wonder people miss it *rollyeyes*

As crappy as the slot is - at least they're showing it. They could've not bothered to show Season 3 at all and just left us in limbo. >W<

Knuxs - April 24, 2005 10:41 PM (GMT)
Then we would just have to wait for the DVD's :dum: when are they out again?

I wonder how likely it is C4 will buy season 4 and show it before Lost in August (i.e Alias at 9 and then Lost at 10), thats what they do in the states and both shows help each other with the ratings.......so you never know. Might email them and ask..... :thinky:

The S3 DVDs are out on 30th May - only 4 weeks on Monday! :nany:

I don't think it's very likely Channel 4 will buy the rights to S4 or if they do - that it'll be shown in August. It's still been shown on Bravo (digital/satellite channel) and I'd imagine they'd have to wait til they finish S4 before they (C4) could begin showing it.

I hope that made some kinda sense!

Lofty - May 3, 2005 02:20 PM (GMT)
How good was last night, Jack has found out about the evil double agent. Wont say any more in case any one has watched season 3 yet.

Sark can never be caught, he is just to cute in straight jackets. Although its a bit daft how could he have killed all those people???

How many more left do we have? :thinky:

Knuxs - May 3, 2005 06:42 PM (GMT)
:Bounmir: I was going to go to bed and tape it, but glad I stayed up to watch, it was good. It was very predtable to start with, but you didnt know if the kids would die or not and that was cool. I liked the double twists again thats always cool. I agree that Sark always escaping is getting silly now.

The ending was great, sent a shiver down my spine...the next few weeks ought to be good. :Wink1:

gmanuk - May 3, 2005 09:18 PM (GMT)
It's official - my video doesn't like Alias!! :mad7:

I set up the tape for it and came to watch it back tonight and it'd only taped the first 10 mins or so! :(

That's 2 episodes I've missed now cos of video cock-ups. I'm just glad that it's only three and a bit weeks now til the DVDs are out. (woW>

And Lofty I think we've got about 6 episodes left - last night's was episode 16, I think.

Hacky - May 5, 2005 06:45 AM (GMT)
#haha# thats so funny, that used to happen a lot to me too, the only way to fix it WAS TO STAY UP! #haha#

Or :Light: maybe you should just buy a new video player.

Jeniffer is cute, but Will and the black women were nicer, they could have had so much more storyline, but instead Will dated Jack and then they split up in real life and he got the sack, I was gutted. :(

Vaughan hasnt been in it much the last few weeks which has been cool, its nice to see how the team works without them, but Sloan getting it on is too scary for that time of night

Only 6 left, thats bad its going to be ages until season 4 then.

Lofty - May 11, 2005 02:37 PM (GMT)
It was great on Monday night, I was shocked! Slaon will die in two weeks #haha# yeah sure. But it was horrid that she killed her dad, what a sicko. its getting good now!

Only 5 to go, I take it Laureen wont be in it next season too? Is Sark?

gmanuk - May 11, 2005 08:54 PM (GMT)

But Lauren didn't kill him though did she? It was her mother that shot him!

SPOILER: (highlight to read)Lauren probably isn't going to be back next season as she gets killed in the S3 finale. As for Sark he's got bumped back to recurring status and so far has only appeared in a couple of eps, but is rumoured to be appearing in the finale. Hope that clears things up for you! :)

Have to say I think it's VERY unlikely Sloane's execution will actually go ahead. He'll get a last minute pardon, or escape or be extracted in some convulted way like they did with Irina last season.

Lofty - May 16, 2005 12:03 PM (GMT)
Is it on tonight? Should be cool :nany: I've have to risk taping it staying awake so late is bad for my health #haha#

There are so few epys to go I cant think of what they will do next.

But yeah cool, 'll say some more when I see it tonight. Cant wait! :GrinDance:

gmanuk - May 16, 2005 10:28 PM (GMT)
Yep sure is on tonight! 12:20 according to my TV guide. Think there's only about 5 eps to go now.

But on the plus side it's only two weeks til the DVDs are out! :nany:

Fawkes - May 17, 2005 03:42 PM (GMT)
How much are the DVD's again? I might be tempted to get them, but the last few episodes have been kinda dull, Lauren killing people (that guy in the club was hot by the way :hee: ) and when he found out about her with the wig and all, I just wasnt that intrested, if you can get that...they havent built it all up either, I think if we still didnt know about why Syd Lost her memory that be gripping.

BUT above all why do they have a new set of gadgets every episode, but then have a simliar kind of mission a few weeks later and use something completly different.

Just me nit picking #haha#

gmanuk - May 17, 2005 09:16 PM (GMT)
Have to say I don't see why so many people badmouthed Season 3 when it was on in the US. I don't think it's half as bad as they've made it out to be. Sure it's not a patch on Season 2 but by no means is it "crap".

I'm glad Vaughn knows about Lauren now cos they were starting to drag it out a little bit. But how daft is she to NOT lock up her double agent kit? :craze1:

Have to say I liked sneaky Jack lying to Sloane about that "Trust" group when he found out about Sloane's fling with Irina.

Syd's fight with those guys (whoever they were) was brilliant. They've been missing a good use-anything-that's-lying-around-as-a-weapon fight for some time now.

Lastly I love Marshall - he just cracks me up the way he rambles on. He always adds just the right bit of humour when it's needed.

The DVDs are around the £40 mark or just under. You'll probably have to shop around to get the best price though.

Lofty - May 23, 2005 11:08 AM (GMT)
ooh its on again tonight. Anopther late one for me, its quite cosy to be all wrapped up and watching late night TV, but the adverts are so gross, its like sex stuff all the time, makes watching it feel really seedy, like if I were a man I ought to be drooling over Syd. Disgusting.

On the other hand its too gripoping to wait until morning. I think it ought to get hotter tonight. Not long to go now....12 hours tonight and 4 weeks before the final.

gmanuk - May 27, 2005 10:16 PM (GMT)
Lookie what I got in the post this morning:

)Dance(

I've watched the last 3 eps (the ones five haven't shown yet) today. And let me tell you - they're great. Not as good as the closing eps of S2 but still pretty damn good. Suffice to say those of you who like Vaughn will get to see him minus his shirt in on ep! :Eyebrows:

Fawkes - May 28, 2005 09:39 AM (GMT)
#haha# you kinky sod. I'm so going to town next week to get my copy. :drool1: naked (semi) Vaughan (woW>

After Alias I'm really looking forward to Lost now, made by the same guy and by the looks of it an awesome cast.

I am sad about this season ending because it might mean we wont see the next one untill a whole year has past...

*begs (bEg) that there isnt a huge cliffhanger*

Well it's not AS huge as the ones from the previous two seasons but it is kinda infuriating. Especially as it's going to be AGES before we find out what happened.

I don't even think we'll get to see it on terrestrial TV though. Cos five only bought the rights to seasons 2 & 3. We may have to wait til S4 gets released on DVD! (Grrr!)

gmanuk - October 24, 2005 08:14 PM (GMT)
I meant to post this in here AGES ago: Season 4 is being released on DVD on 21st November! I'm well chuffed, we're getting only a MONTH after the US whereas with the previous sets we've had to wait at least half a year.

Amazonseem to have it fairly cheap!

Only 4 weeks to go!! :hyper:

Knuxs - October 30, 2005 07:01 PM (GMT)
I've watched about half of it now!! Season 4 I mean. Its really very good.

Still no mega clifhangers, no huge underlying plot. You know Sloane and Jack are up to something  but they are in every season... Syd and Vaughan arent all loved up which is good. It was getting old the whole, "save the day lets hug now"

No I think this is certainly one of the better seasons, looking forward to see what season 5 has to offer...

Lofty - October 31, 2005 03:56 PM (GMT)
Coolant for my car. :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

I am so looking forward to the DVD set, I've heard good things, and you guys seem up beat about it. I've heard of APO but thats about it.... Mystery starting up already.

Oh yeah one quick question, when they show the signs that say what country they are travelling too, are they really filming in those countries?

Nah they film most of the "international" locations in the States. They apparently have location scouts who go out looking for places that fit the various sites for each episode.

There was a featurette on the Season 3 DVDs which showed how they used camera trickery to implant background scenes from where a location is supposed to be to make it look more authentic.

I'd imagine it'd get very expensive if they had to fly the cast out to all these different locations otherwise.

Knuxs - November 3, 2005 07:42 AM (GMT)
omg the end of Season 4 is just...

laughable. I'm sorry but it was an OK season then was wrecked with a stupid plot ripped from a movie. Something on the lines of "OMFG we have been turned into Zombies, somebody kill us all!!" Then the ending as always is a bit shocking, but this was just tooo funny. It was smashed in to keep the watcher intrested for next season (yes a pun :Wink1: ), a nice happy ending, everything tied up, then.... It still makes me smile.
Oh and Jack had such a cool set of lines...

"I've been told the last few years I should try something different, I plan to have some fun" Just before he messes around with someone to get info.

That was my thoughts too. They go to a new country every ep so it would have added up.

Any news about a UK tv channel showing Alias season 4 plus? I will but the DVD if I have to but its quite a lot.

I like the sound of Jack in season 4 now. 'I want to have more fun' I always thought him a bit up tight so seeing him let lose will be a sight not to be missed.

What about Sark and Syds mother, and her daughter, do they all star? I wonder if Mr Sloan will be good or bad this season too :thinky: cant wait

You've not got long to wait to find out. The DVDs are out on Monday!! (woW> :hyper:

Without giving TOO much away only one of those 3 characters you mentioned is starring in season 4.

I hope they've got a few more commentaries than last season and they're spread out a bit. Last season I think they only did 3 and they were all on episodes that were quite close together.

gmanuk - November 24, 2005 11:22 PM (GMT)
I come baring bad news guys:

ABC cancels Alias

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Alias is going undercover for good.

The spy drama starring Jennifer Garner will end its five-season run in May, ABC announced Wednesday, promising a big finish.

Alias is not going to wind down as it comes to an end, it's going to rev up, and we're going to make it the event it deserves to be,'' ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson said in a statement.

The series co-stars Victor Garber, Ron Rifkin, Carl Lumbly and Kevin Weisman. It was created by executive producer J.J. Abrams, who is also part of ABC's popular Lost.

Airing at 8 p.m. EST Thursday this season, Alias has struggled to hold its audience against the competition, especially CBS' Survivor: Guatemala. Last week, the ABC show drew about 7 million viewers compared to about 19 million for Survivor.

Garner and her husband, actor Ben Affleck, are expecting their first child around Christmas. Her pregnancy was written into Alias for her character, a globe-trotting spy

Awww :(

Oh well it wasnt like it wasnt expected. She was going to take a year out at least, so without Syd it wouldnt be the same... the season isnt over yet so things might change still. *Tries to be postive.*

*tries to keep up the positive vibe* At least they've been given plenty of notice so it can go out with a bang and tie up any loose ends.

Seen a couple of the recent episodes, it's not the same now she is with child, less fighting and stuff. Amy Acker is in the credits too, so she will be sticking around, it was werid how Greg (greenberg?) never got a credit and yet Amy gets it for the last 7 eps or what ever is left.

Still have the early season box sets. And why cant Vaughan die already and be replaced by Will!

Did you mean he didn't get a credit for the ep you were watching or in general, cos he was a regular for 2 full seasons. :thinky:
