Title: Lost In the UK
Description: Update
Knuxs - March 25, 2005 11:09 PM (GMT)
Once again DS comes through with Lost news (woW> , this quote comes from the Lost media site.
| QUOTE |
silvandy02 writes "Channel 4 is gearing up to launch a huge marketing campaign for new US drama Lost.
The cult show, which follows a group of survivors after their plane crashes on a mysterious island, has been a ratings success in the States, where it draws more than 16 million viewers each week.
C4 originally planned to air the series in the UK from January, but then decided to postpone transmission until the summer following the success of another new US drama, Desperate Housewives. The network was also keen to hold back in order to get the cast involved in the promotional campaign, which was shot on location in Hawaii last week.
Describing the show as "very important" for Channel 4, a spokeswoman told Digital Spy: "Everyone will know about it once the campaign starts."
Lost is now due to air from "early August" in a primetime slot; most likely the current Wednesday, 10pm slot occupied by Desperate Housewives. Source: Digital Spy.co.uk" |
It sounds like its going to hit the UK like something huge, and if we get ads directed at the UK......that could mean lots of Dom and his cast mates on TV (woW> (woW> (woW> (woW> This is such good news, I'm really excited now! I'm going to talk more about it, but right now I need to run down the street and yell that LOST IS COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me enjoy it OMG OMG OMG Lost is coming its really coming!! <Chair> )Dance( (--) (thank1) <craze> (DanCe) (SNake> <drool< >HO< (BouN) }C/{ (Winker) (JaY) (Rolly) <dEaD> I just dont know what to feel!!!!! Glitter - April 3, 2005 11:07 PM (GMT)
Thanks for this news Knuxs! (thank1) It seems like we have been waiting forever for Lost to make it to the UK. And we still have another four months to wait too. :( I'm sure it will be worth the wait though! <lol>
Glitter - April 18, 2005 10:35 AM (GMT)
News of Lost finally making it to the UK made it into the Sun on Saturday! (woW>
There was a tiny bit about it on their "TV Biz" page, under the heading "Watercooler TV".
| QUOTE (The Sun) |
| Take 14 survivors from a plane crash, leave them stranded on an island with a mystery beast - and you've got the brilliant US hit Lost. It stars Party of Five's Matthew Fox, and will definitely be one to talk about when it reaches Channel 4 in August. |
I think that's one of the first mentions I've seen about Lost in the British press. The publicity should start up for it soon I expect. :)

No there wasn't a picture or anything. :( It was a tiny little bit, in the top left hand corner of the "TV Biz" page. I'm surprised I spotted it actually! #haha# It was nice to see it mentioned though! :)
Knuxs - April 19, 2005 10:11 AM (GMT)
This morning I watched the first episode of LOST!!! (woW> :o
:o I was just wetting myself, it’s much better than I could have hoped for, it’s so annoying I can’t post about it anywhere as it’s a spoiler for the UK and anywhere else is too far ahead. But wow, I don’t know where to start, it’s so creepy, the music is sly and not like movies when you can tell something is going to happen, its shocking and dark, pictures and short clips don’t even start to do it justice. At the start I actually shouted out OMG as the – dam can’t say that Spoiler ><() . I love it already and two cast members I recognize from Alias, it’s graphic, vicious and not suitable for kids you have been warned. I can see why its one of the best shows in the USA, hope it follows suit over here also.
It might sound strange but I think it would be much better in a way to just focus on the story rather than add the supernatural elements, maybe that will change in a few episodes, but it just feels like there is so much to explore in terms of character developments, again its outstanding and plain exceptional and that’s only the first episode, I feel sorry that so many people have to wait to August but your not be disappointed, that’s a promise I can keep, no problems. (Winker)
Thanks to Jess for taking the time to help me, its made my day! (thank1)
Tigerlily - April 19, 2005 10:32 AM (GMT)
OMG I'm so excited for you guys. You're gonna love it more than you think you will. Mark my words. It's just such an amazing brilliant show. And all the characters are sooo amazing.
Oh gosh, your enthusiasm is making me bounce from joy.

Rich, expect more in the post tomorrow.
(and what do you mean it's not suitable for kids? My kids like it)
Knuxs - April 19, 2005 11:23 AM (GMT)
<lol> , really! Maybe I’m being to sensitive, some of it was so graphic like that guy at the start, but I’m starting to think it’s a little like Private Ryan, the first part is shocking and just awful and then it gets more placid as time goes on <C>> . Whatever it rocks (woW> , it’s also nice to see Dom moving about rather than only being in still in pictures, shows you how big his ears really are! ><() I loved it when he came out of the loo and had that huge smile over his face, if I didnt know about Charlie one might wonder what he had just done >W<
Cant wait to get home tonight so I can watch some more! BRING IT ON!!!!!
Glitter - April 20, 2005 07:03 AM (GMT)
It sounds great, lucky you seeing it already! :) I've deliberately avoided all spoilers, so don't know much about it, but I can't wait now! Roll on August, that's what I say! #haha#
I take it the UK is one of the last countries to show it? It certainly seems like it anyway! <lol>
Knuxs - April 20, 2005 10:32 PM (GMT)
I watched more today thanks to Jess >< Its getting better and better, <BEat> *squels* (ALMOST! #haha# ) its really good your going to love it come 4 months. Charlie is just the best, he is always grinning and acting like a famous person with his fans, except status doesnt really have an effect on a Island like that....It will be fun to watch how that changes.
There are some dark ethical themes <DARK> that make you think, it has an appeal to everyone..... (Hmmmm)
Knuxs - May 16, 2005 06:42 AM (GMT)
The LOST Promotion for the UK has started!! (woW> I saw some posters yesterday with some of the cast on posters that says "have you seen us"? Nought else just another mystery form of advertsing by channel four...like the Big Brother I suppose...which is coming in 12 DAYS (I think?)
Knuxs - July 4, 2005 03:02 PM (GMT)
Rummor has it that the first look at lost will be THIS WEEKEND, Its suppose to be an interview with some of the cast on T4 some time over the weekend. So look out of it! :bounce:
Kim - July 4, 2005 10:29 PM (GMT)
:o YAAAY. I watch T4 every Saturday anyway so I shouldn't miss it. WOO bring it on!
Knuxs - July 5, 2005 12:23 AM (GMT)

| QUOTE |
Channel 4 has finally set a date for the premiere of Lost in the UK.
The cult show, which has already wrapped its first season in the States, will occupy the Desperate Housewives timeslot - Wednesdays at 10pm - from August 10.
Also akin to Desperate Housewives, new episodes of Lost will premiere on E4 immediately after the Channel 4 episode ends.
Channel 4 has already kickstarted its promotional campaign in cinema theatres and intends to launch its TV teaser commercials shortly |
Meriagrin Brandytook - July 5, 2005 08:16 AM (GMT)
(woW> I can't wait, even though I've seen the entire first season, I want to see it all over again (and in better quality than the downloads)

Tigerlily - July 5, 2005 08:13 PM (GMT)
why, why, why do we never get to see any Dom interviews on Dutch TV. It's depressing.
Boy, that add sure gets around. It's been posted on the dutch los community. Ain't that grand.
Hestia - July 6, 2005 06:52 PM (GMT)
OMG... that's one hell of a commercial. BEAUTIFUL! *is in awe*
Glitter - July 10, 2005 03:31 PM (GMT)
Finally had a chance to watch the Lost ad, it's brilliant! (Rolly) I can't believe that it's only a month now until the UK finally gets to see it! :nany:
The publicity machine appears to be in full swing! "Sunday" magazine which comes free with "The News of the World" has a double page article about Lost and it features a large picture of Dom as Charlie standing amongst the plane wreckage as it's centrepiece! (Rolly) I never realised Charlie has a drug problem as I have deliberately avoided spoilers to such an extent that I didn't really know anything about any of the characters! #haha# At least it will all be a surprise anyway! <lol>
Thanks Rich for uploading the article for me. Lost in the UK would have already started by the time I worked out how to do it! <lol>
Knuxs - July 10, 2005 03:33 PM (GMT)
This is All Glitters work, she just couldnt upload them. So a huge thanks to her. (Rolly)

Glitter - July 23, 2005 08:40 PM (GMT)

Meriagrin Brandytook - August 5, 2005 09:22 PM (GMT)
SFX have got a beautiful Lost cover this month, and a 3 page article about the show. I'll scan it and post it as soon as I can (probably Monday, coz I've got a busy weekend)

A article by Benji Wilson (Rolly)
| QUOTE |
Board the flight to the Lost world As Lost crashlands on to our screens, Benji Wilson joins the survivors
For those mourning the end of Desperate Housewives, the news that Channel 4 had another American smash in the pipeline was greeted with glee. Lost appeared to have all the vital ingredients: addictive drama, a string of teasing conundrums and a cast of beautiful people.
The series follows the fortunes of a group of plane crash survivors who are stranded on a mysterious island somewhere in the South Pacific, a place where a polar bear might be found beneath the palm trees and invisible man-eating monsters give visitors a special welcome. What’s more, our castaways aren’t exactly average Joes, encompassing the whole gamut of liars and thieves, sages and princesses. Quite what Desperate Housewives’ neurotic Bree Van De Kamp would make of this rabble is unclear, but she certainly wouldn’t have liked all the noise.
On set in Hawaii, it’s fair to say that Lost’s cast is flagging. The show has taken America by storm, but a seemingly endless succession of jungle chases, boar hunts and fisticuffs has taken its toll. The British actor Naveen Andrews (The Buddha of Suburbia, The English Patient), who plays the Iraqi Sayid Jarrah, has been pelted with so much freezing-cold artificial rain that he is borderline hypothermic. Matthew Fox (Party of Five), who plays Jack, the resident doctor and hero, is also battle scarred. “It’s as demanding as hell. It can be really rough when I get beaten up.” Fox’s on-screen squeeze, Evangeline Lilly, aka the doughty Kate, has been pounding treadmills for two hours after shooting to get her body temperature back to normal. The setting may be paradise, but the filming is not.
The Lost campus consists of 500 acres, including several jungle sets and a meandering strip of beach. It’s a prime surf spot — head-high rollers buffet the shoreline, and everything would look postcard-perfect were it not for several tonnes of charred aircraft fuselage on the beach. The characters’ campsite, nestled in a gentle cove, is strewn with aircrash detritus and makeshift tents. At the moment, all of the 14 main cast members are gathering for a crucial ensemble shot. I am warned on pain of death not to tell anyone what I see. This becomes a recurring theme over the next few days — in Lost almost every scene contains some kind of plot twist or cliffhanger. It’s this succession of whos, whats and whys that makes it so addictive.
It’s not just the fans who get hooked, either — the cast seem to be just as engrossed with their own show. “They don’t tell us anything,” says Andrews. “In the beginning I thought how exciting it would be if the character is discovering things at the same time as the audience. But now I’m frustrated at wondering what happens. Is there a plan?”
Andrews’s fevered inquisitions mimic the show’s fansites, where conspiracy theorising about what was going on reaches epidemic proportions. I put it to Dominic Monaghan (The Lord of the Rings), who plays the has-been rocker Charlie, that maybe the writers don’t know what’s going to happen either. “I started off thinking the same thing. But I think that they do. Damon Lindelof [one of the show’s creators] said to me that he had a five-year plan for the show. He talked in the long term about a few things. In terms of why we’re all tied together and what this island represents, I have a hard time wondering if they know or not. But they have surprised me again and again when I’ve thought: ‘This is going to be terrible,’ and it ends up being great.”
That is a neat abridgement of Lost’s weekly party trick — offer up a plot twist so fantastical that it lurches towards being absurd, and then, through a mix of taut scripting and a carefully cultivated sense of the surreal, make it believable. This kind of U-turn takes place, on average, at least three times an episode.
The supply line for all these surprises is twofold. First there are the weekly flashbacks. In each show, one character has their back-story filled out in retrospect — we learn who they are and what they were doing on the flight in the first place. It is a technique that creates a cache of secrets, motives, answers and, yes, more questions to throw into what is already a boiling pot of intrigue.
And second, there is the island itself, complete with all sorts of he’s-behind-you ghouls that may or may not exist. Monaghan has his own ideas as to what the beast looks like. “When I’m running away from it, I think of an African elephant with 17 cats stuck to its back.” If that’s an example of what Lost is doing to the heads of the cast, imagine what it is going to do to you.

I saw it last night and it was WOW :o I will be watching more as the weeks move on, it's even better than Desperate Housewives and I loved that
Meriagrin Brandytook - August 11, 2005 08:25 PM (GMT)
It was ever so slightly different to the ep's that I downloaded. There were scenes that seemed a little more drawn out, and the music was different. I think the UK edit is better, it's got more feeling to it (and I hadn't thought that possible)

Jess agree 100% I cant put my finger on it, but there were subtle differences and I'm not just talking about the annoying cuts! Why they didnt show the Pilot in the tree after the watershed, but did show that man getting sucked into the engine is anyones guess. <_<
gmanuk - August 11, 2005 09:24 PM (GMT)
Well I watched it last night and have to say I absolutely LOVED it! I even watched the extra 3rd episode on E4.
Cos I watched all of the eps pretty close together I'm a little hazy on what happened in each of them exactly. I love the whole mystery aspect of the show, where exactly are they?, what did Kate do? what's the deal with the polar bear/big monster? what's going on with that Chinese couple? What's with that weird French woman's distress signal? You can so tell the guy behind Alias made this show!
Speaking of Alias it was a nice touch having Greg Grunberg (Weiss) doing a cameo as the pilot.
Can't wait til next week - though it's a bit of a bitch as I'll have to wait til 11ish to watch the extra ep on E4. (Grrr!)
Knuxs - August 13, 2005 03:14 PM (GMT)
AHHHHHH I WANT A COPY OF HEAT!!!
I've just heard that this weeks heat has a massive pull out LOST poster, but I've been looking and I cant find a single copy anywhere! We only have until TUESDAY because thats when the new issue comes out...
Anyway if you get one could you comment on what its like? :hee:
gmanuk - August 14, 2005 08:48 PM (GMT)
Did anyone catch the Lost Revealed doco on E4 last night??
It was quite good. It had a few sneak peeks of stuff yet to come. There were interviews with all the cast plus JJ and the other creator guy, oh and some US/UK journos.
The only downside that I managed to gleam from the doco is that by the end of the season there's still going to be a lot of questions left unanswered! :(
Meriagrin Brandytook - August 15, 2005 08:11 AM (GMT)
I saw it! It was pretty good, and yes, by the end of season1 there are still quite a few questions unanswered, but there's also a lot that have been answered. It leaves plenty open for the second season. I can't wait!!! My computer is ready and waiting for the downloading to start again.
Lofty - August 15, 2005 11:52 AM (GMT)
:jay:  :GrinDance: I got my copy of heat, the poster in the middle is very good and MASSIVE. Its going up on my wall as soon as I get home. Thanks for telling me about it.
Lost Revealed, I saw that. I did think it gave a lot away, it might have been nicer to wait for some of the plot twists, we did see a lot and someone told me you could see clips as far as episode 21 which isnt as good thing. I still want to watch it more than ever before it did its job then :Wink1:
Who else has watched the ads, they man who plays Syaid (Sp?) he is ENGLISH! Common English at that, I fell off my seat when I heard him talk on the channel four indents. :die:
Knuxs - August 28, 2005 03:47 PM (GMT)
This from another forum... gutted I missed it this morning :( !!!

"And now we would like to welcome to T4 Dominic Monaghan!" I must've known subconciously hehe.
Anyways, was just a short 5-minute interview. He was just asked about living in Hawaii for 9 months of the year and mostly about how the show has affected his life, how it was nice to go from 'Rings' as he called it (Vernon Kay - presenter - was very impressed with that haha) and then he was offered little nicey-cutesy parts, but he wanted something more contempary (sp?!) so it was great that he got offered Charlie. And he also said that it's great that the show has that cinematic feel to it as well. He was asked about how long the show could run for and he said that he'd be really happy to see it go like The X Files and have 3 really fantastic seasons, then a movie to finish it all off. |
Did anyone else catch T4 see him this morning?
