Title: Lush
Description: The Shop of Random Things

Knuxs - February 25, 2005 06:58 PM (GMT)
I love this shop, just thought I’d share some of my problems with getting others interested, I‘d enjoy hearing how you got hooked and if you ever have to “fool” people into getting past the doors (SNake> .

“Lush”, for most this means nice, delicious, luscious or even plain yummy, all things you would link with food. How about Soap? Lush is one of my much loved shops, some people…well in fact almost everyone I talk to is put off by the “smell” blowing out of the funky looking doors. I try to tell them it’s just the air blower and once they get inside it’s like a dreamland, they scoff and peep through the door and I watch their eyes focus on the huge slabs of soap, I see a smirk form on their disbelieving faces and for ever more link the place with vile smells and soap addicts. I sigh and just wish they would give it a go. Not one to give up I buy presents for them…all from Lush of course, they see the odd shaped gifts and smile, A “I’m getting a present thank you so much!” kinda thing, as soon as the paper is screwed up and disregarded, I watch there eyes fall, “Hmmmm” they start, trying to be tactful but failing with ease, “Lush...just what I wanted!” they finish so unconvincingly they wouldn’t fool a 3 year old. I smile and try to urge them just to use it once, beg even, I whine and plead. They avoid my eyes and while playing with the twisted wrapper tell me they will….sometime. “

Years later the product is out of date and still sitting on their shelf, or passed on to a hated relative. “It hurts my skin” they moan about the un touched and harmless tub, or box. Lame I think, while shaking my head. Honestly anyone would think it was poison or some sort of death omen, I go away and plan my attack (Hmmmm) . I think hard and come up with many plans, tell them I want Lush for my birthday, tell them a dear friend of ours is working there now and we should go say hi, even a half price sale! and the last resort force them into the shop.
For my birthday I get dull socks, as for the dear “friend” plan…the “friend” suddenly becomes less dear, the half price idea results in, full price seeming to be a much better deal and off we go to some over priced cosmetic booth. Finally forcing them in makes a scene as they cling to the door frame for dear life. I think that I should just give up… but I cant not until the whole world knows about Lush! Last ever plan is one I like to avoid… when its dark I sneak into their bathrooms, swap the contents of bottles and fill each one with the wonder of Lush goodness, hide the white boring soap and replace it with my temptation.

Pretty soon we are shopping there, the smell isn’t so bad anymore and they can see past the blocks of random colored soap and we even talk about the shop and outstanding service over coffee, all the while I can see in their eyes two things, deep regret that they wasted so much time not going, and the desire to get home and try out the free sample we were given. Ahh I think afterwards, my work is well and truly done. Lush is just that, Lush and everyone needs to know that, one way or another

Kim - February 26, 2005 01:20 PM (GMT)
I went to Lush just yesterday! It was only my second visit there so I bought more this time. I bought the Chocolate Whipstick (made with real chocolate so I've been eating it lol), Mask Of Magnaminty which was the only face mask I've found for ages which doesn't make my face sting, and the Rock Star soap.

I first became hooked when I found the shop by chance and bought the Marshmallow Moment bath bomb just cos I loved the colour of it. I've been hooked since <-->

Lush make handmade soaps, shampoos, shower gels, bubble bath slices, ballistics, skincare products etc. Everything is vegetarian and a lot of their stuff is vegan. Nothing is tested on animals, minimal packaging is used and very few preservatives are used, hence a lot of their products are solid (which need fewer preservatives than liquid products apparently!) You can find out more at Lush and you can order on line there too. :)

I am completely hooked on Lush and have been for the last 2 years or so. I just love everything about their products and they have some of the friendliest, most helpful staff in their shops too. :) I think my favourite product has to be American Cream conditioner which just smells so gorgeous it's unbelievable, but I love most of their other stuff too!! I first discovered Lush when my mum gave me three ballistics for Christmas one year. I liked them so much I went to buy some more and realised that there was a lot more to Lush than just ballistics and soap! Completely hooked ever since!! :) As Knuxs says, people shouldn't get put off by the smell, although I like the fact that you can smell the shop before you actually see it! <lol>

Kim - February 26, 2005 05:27 PM (GMT)
lol yeah yesterday I had lost the shop (it's in a big shopping centre which I get lost very easily in) and then suddenly there was a strong smell and I said "oh it's just up here, I can smell it!"

Knuxs - February 26, 2005 11:06 PM (GMT)
Sorry dont use the face masks! Ugh thats the one thing after the ginger smellies that puts me off, I tired the choc one once and ew it looked so foul, like I'd been digging in a doggie bin, gross!

Rock star is great! I love the smell, its good that its in a lot of their other products too...not sure what mind...Glitter will know I'm sure. (Rolly)

Ocean salt is ()DS)( and (wOw) mixed with a bit of <><>W its one of the best things they do (IMHO). Its like a face wash thingy really...well no thats really what it is <lol> Its expensive but worth every penny. There are so many things to chose from, I hear that they are planning on bringing out some toothpaste next, that should be intresting. I hope you have a Lush Times Kim? Oh you have to get some Honey I Washed The Kids, any lush addict will be singing its praise. Glitter is right, American Cream is fab! LOL you need to buy the whole shop <DiE<

My friend eats the Choc lip balm stuff too (SNake> its gross, she is sticking her fingers in it all the time, bet she has run out by now

ithildin28 - February 27, 2005 01:36 AM (GMT)
Thanks for all the info everyone. (SNake> It sounds great. I checked out the site. So many great things. And I found out there is a store here, in Hawaii, Honolulu, which is really close to me. I am definitely going to check that out. Why do I have the feeling I am going to be spending lots of money here soon. <lol>

Kim - February 27, 2005 03:30 PM (GMT)
Cool! I have to travel like 45 minutes for my nearest store :(

Knuxs - I eat the choc lip balm too, I can't help it! I put it on my lips with my fingers then lick the rest of it off (&*"£>

I do have the Lush Times :) I'll have to try the Honey IWTK soap cos Rock Star makes my skin kinda dry actually :( I love the smell but not the feel of it on my skin. So after I've used that I'll probably try Honey.

Knuxs - February 27, 2005 10:15 PM (GMT)
Yeah I have the same problems with the soaps, its ok Once every few days but the soap, soap dries out your skin. Go for one of the cleaning bars, they arent as strong and are great for problem types of skin, watch out for coal face, all the males in my house love it <lol> (They dont know its from Lush!) With the soaps if you cut small chucks off when you need them your room smells so lush as you cut into the locked in freshness (LoL I'm sure there is a logica reason for it but it does work!)

Kelly take Less money! I went once and came out 65 pounds worse off! }C/{ }C/{ My only excuse is that it was sale season (For every 15 pounds you spend you get ONE item that was made the following year, so if you went early you could get a product worth 15 pounds free, that to me is a bargin <lol> ) On top of that I was buying for others, my converting is a costly thing (SNake>

Basically you need to buy a bit of everything and see what you like, then go back for more (Winker). There is something for everyone. (Hmmmm) Wonder if Dom shops there too.....

ithildin28 - February 28, 2005 12:49 AM (GMT)
Take less money, good idea Rich. :) I thini I am going to have to do that. Otherwise I may buy the store. ><()

There are so many cool things I want to try. But I think I narrowed it down to 4 things; Angels On Bare Skin, American Cream, (or Coolaulin) Big Shampoo, and Candy Fluff Dusting Powder. Any thoughts on these?

I can't wait to go shopping. <-->

I bet you can't!! (Rolly) I love going Lush shopping! I would definitely recommend American Cream as it just smells so nice and I can smell it all day after conditioning my hair with it! I would recommend Big shampoo too as it smells similar to American Cream (they both have vanilla in them!) and it leaves my hair lovely and shiny. :) I have never tried Angels on Bare Skin, but have heard good things said about it. Candy Fluff smells lovely, but I have never tried it. :(

The shop assistants in Lush are always very helpful and if there is something you like the look of but aren't sure about they will tell you all about it and may even give you a small free sample so you can see if it is suitable for you! I don't think I would have ever tried solid shampoo bars had I not been given a small sample of one of them!!

I love the smell of Rock Star too. :) The other things that have the same smell as it are Creamy Candy Bubble Bar Slice, the Christmas version Candy Cane Bubble Bar Slice and Candy Fluff Dusting Powder. Creamy Candy is probably my favourite bubble bath slice, it smells gorgeous and my skin is always lovely and soft after a bath with one of those in it!! (Rolly)

I have to agree with Knuxs on how good Ocean Salt is. It was introduced a couple of years ago I think and I tried it as it sounded really good in the Lush Times. I wasn't disappointed and have never been without a pot ever since. It really perks your skin up especially if you are tired or hung over!!! #haha#

ithildin28 - February 28, 2005 10:59 AM (GMT)
Thanks so much Glitter, I appreciate the help. (SNake> I am definitely going to be getting Big and American Cream.

Faolan - February 28, 2005 05:14 PM (GMT)
I LOVE the place. I got some for Yule this year, and now I can't get
enough. The closest shop to me is in Washington D.C. [I live in Maryland]. It's
about an hour and a half drive. So I use the on-line shop. Not sure if it's ok
to post the addy here or not, but this place is too good not to share. [slap my hand later if I wasn't suposed to do this] www.lush.com
Enjoy all,
Faolan

You can order on line. :) They have an Australian section on the website and the postage is $9 for 5 day delivery. It's a shame you haven't got a shop nearer you though. :(

Hacky - March 3, 2005 11:16 AM (GMT)
I've only been once or twice, things are costly. :( yet they are far to good to pass up. I advise everyone not to get the bath bombs, they leave such a mess around the bath and the glitter ones.... (SNake> your have glitter in your house for weeks.

The fresh chemist is nice, its a face wash bar type thingy, smells yum.

Glitter - March 3, 2005 09:23 PM (GMT)
You're right, their stuff is a bit expensive but I think it's worth the money as it is just so good! :) Only some of the ballistics leave a mess round the bath, usually the orange or yellow ones in my experience. I love the ones with glitter in them, in fact I love all their stuff with glitter in!! <LOVE> :) The sparklier the better I say!! (Rolly)

Glitter - March 14, 2005 09:47 AM (GMT)
Went to Lush on Saturday and despite having a bedroom and bathroom full of Lush stuff I still managed to spend £17! }C/{ It's mad, I only went in for a small pot of Mask of Magnaminty as I am nearly out of it, but I just couldn't resist all the other things in there. I got a ballistic which I can't wait to try out, it's a new one and has gold glitter in it! (Rolly) There were two new soaps too, but I managed to resist them as I really have got so much soap at the moment! <lol>

Knuxs - March 14, 2005 04:15 PM (GMT)
I know what you mean, soap is soap, but you keep going back for more <lol> what are the new ones? Are they in Lush times? (Is there a NEW Lush Times too?)

Glitter - March 15, 2005 08:22 AM (GMT)
There isn't a new Lush Times out yet (the one in the shop on Saturday was the one I already have), but there must be one due out soon. It seems ages since I got the last one! <lol>

The new soaps are called Cereology and 17 Cherry Tree Lane. Cereology is green and amongst other things has wheatgerm in it. It smells really nice imo and I very nearly bought some, but just managed to stop myself in time! #haha# 17 Cherry Tree Lane looks lovely, but it didn't really smell of much. It is creamy white with red and black bits on the top and gold glitter! I was disappointed as I thought it would smell gorgeous as it looked so nice! (Rolly)

The "problem" with Lush soaps is that there are so many different ones, all different colours and smells that you just want to try them all. I never realised that I could get so excited about soap until I discovered Lush! (&*"£> #haha#

Knuxs - March 15, 2005 11:26 AM (GMT)
I have sinned! (N) I went into Boots yesterday and found some soap reduced from £5 to £1, so I brought it, now I'm going to boots again to buy some Kangol 38-83 and I might get some more of that soap. (&*"£> Maybe I will pop into Lush on my way back home. But its the races this week and town is manic, so wont be there any longer than I have to be. If I get the chnace I'll look out for the above mentioned ~Wink~

<lol> I sinned too on Saturday! I bought some Dove body lotion, which is actually really nice, although I think I still prefer Lush Dream Cream. ~Wink~ I very rarely buy skin/body care products from anywhere other than Lush now, only things that they don't make eg. hairspray and mousse.

Vixen - March 16, 2005 02:16 PM (GMT)
We have a Lush shop in Dublin and I've never been in it, the smell as you pass would knock you out nearly, I didn't like it. BUT, you're descriptions are making me want to try some of their stuff!! They sound gorgeous! :D

I know a lot of people find the smell a bit overpowering and it puts them off, but I find once you are actually in the shop you get used to it and hardly notice it after a while. (Rolly) Their stuff is lovely and I reckon once you make it in a shop once, you'll be hooked! They have such a wide range of products I'm sure you will find something that'll take your fancy. <lol>

Happy St Patrick's Day btw. :)

Sounds Interesting. (Rolly)

I use Nivea For Men, Double Action Face Wash, which costs me a fiver.
Then I use the Intensive Moisture Cream which also costs me a fiver.
I use to be a soap and water person but since using the above found a massive improvement in my skin.

I've heard a lot about Lush, maybe one day I'll try it. (Hmmmm)

You should try it, their stuff is great! (Rolly) My skin improved once I started using Fresh Farmacy cleansing bar and Celestial moisturiser rather than stuff I got from Boots or Superdrug and I can't imagine using anything else now! You should try Cosmetic Lad moisturiser which is especially for men. I know Knuxs liked it when he tried it! (Rolly)

They only accept credit cards for on line orders. :( Maybe you'll have to get that flight after all or find someone with a credit card who will let you use it and then you give them the cash. (Rolly)

There are Lush shops in a lot of the big towns, but I've just looked and there isn't one where you live. :( You can order on line at www.lush.co.uk though and they will deliver in 3-5 days! :)

Knuxs - April 1, 2005 11:59 AM (GMT)
! OMG went to Lush today! And they had all this new stuff! So I just brought it all, testing you see (Winker)

They have this new range of lip salves and temple balms so I brought a flying Fox one, its smells so sweet like jasmine and honey its great! A T Tree salve thing, that’s ok it doesn’t really smell that much and a lush (it really is you HAVE to buy it) Honey Trap thingy, ok its really aimed at girls, the tub has a pink label and the name ><()

And finally I brought a Breath Of Fresh Air >HO< nice.

Then we were so happy I spent 60 pounds on clothes oh well at least I got student discount and sales things. #haha#

Be Good Go to lush!

Glitter - April 3, 2005 10:21 PM (GMT)
Lucky you going Lush shopping! :) I haven't been for a while, as really don't need anything, so have no excuse at the moment! #haha# The new stuff all sounds.....lush! Did you get a new Lush Times while you were there? There must be a new one out soon, it seems ages since the last one! <lol>

Glitter - April 11, 2005 03:06 PM (GMT)
My new Lush Times has finally turned up at last! (woW> All the new stuff looks lovely, especially the shower gels. I've got to go Lush shopping and soon! #haha#

Knuxs - April 11, 2005 03:17 PM (GMT)
Its werid. I kinda went off some of the things I really liked, now I'm going back for more, The Marilyn stuff is almost gone and I need to get a new pot to keep my highlights looking "blonde" after a few weeks they get this darkey tint. Not nice.

So yeah the new stuff might bge worth a look, but some of the old stuff I dont like any more and wont be buying :( Like the bath bombs. Do you get that too, or is it just me? What do you buy the most of?

Glitter - April 11, 2005 04:00 PM (GMT)
I don't buy as many bath bombs as I used to, because I think I prefer their bubble bath slices now. I don't tend to have so many baths when the weather is nicer either, as showers are more refreshing!

The things I buy the most are their skincare products. I have now been using Fresh Farmacy and Celestial for three years, so probably always buy those when I go Lush shopping. I always make sure I don't run out of Mask of Magnaminty or Ocean Salt either, as they are both fab! <lol>

I don't really go off things as such, but often I try something, but don't really like it so use it up, but don't bother buying it again! #haha# Also sometimes they will bring out a different type of something that I already use and I may switch to the new one if I prefer it. A good example is when they bought out American Cream, I switched from their Coconut one to that one, as as you know it is just so nice! <lol>

Why have you gone off the bath bombs btw?

Knuxs - April 11, 2005 04:09 PM (GMT)
Too much money! <lol> I'm not normally snobby about money, but I cant spend 3 quid for a single bath. Maybe on special days. As you say the bubble slices are much nicer they make the bath and you smell lush, and last for a long while if you dont mind mixing the water with your hands a little #haha#

Yeah Marilyn is nice, I like that the smell....but i found out the other day...it doubles up to become like a gel! You can use it to style your hair, the only bad think with that is the smell, its a little strong for going out the house with, so I just put a little vanilla in and its smells great now, gonna get some more moro I think, they had a laugh at us the other day, I went it with my friend and I pointed out that HIWTKs was part of one of the soap stacks and she looked at it and got all eggy "How you know thats what it is?" so there we were fighting and out of the corner of my eye the shop assistants were sniggering. ><() Never mind! They work in lush I'll let them off.

I like the £3.95 deal you never think that’s just £4 so you always get a shock once its all been added up. Good job or I might start paying closer attention to the money.

American Cream is sooooo nice your not wrong and the same for ocean salt. I'm liking the male aimed products like Coalface now its very cool except it puts black stuff round the sink  thats no good.
